| After 2 weeks of unsafe
ice conditions, the Central Wisconsin Ice
Racing Season Opener went off perfectly.
The Jan 7th season opener and the Jan 14th
races were rescheduled and combined into
a 2 days points race Jan 20th and
21st. Promoters Jim and Ryan Falke worked
with the CWIRA President Larry Strangfeld
and put on an awesome race in Fremont, WI.
Racers showed up early Saturday morning
at Partridge Lake in Fremont, WI with big
smiles on their faces. Most of them have
been getting machines ready since October
for the 2 month long ice season. Ice
racing is very big in Wisconsin with most
races getting 150-220 racers between bike,
quad and ATV classes.
Ice racing machines can be anything from
a bone stock LT-80 to a KLR650 powered Honda
ATC. There are 15 ATV and quad classes that
run at every CWIRA event. The “rubber” classes
are non-studded machines. Most of the racers
use Pro Wedge or a Dimpled Knobby
style rear tire The studded quads run “kold
kutter” or “gold screws” in there tires
to provide amazing traction.
The weekend went perfect with no injuries
and beautiful 30 degrees weather (warm for
us in winter). An excellent time had by
racers and spectators. There is eager anticipation
for the rest of the season. For more ice
race information please check out
