May 24 - Ohio plans statewide system of recreational trails

Ohio State's WebsiteAt the request of Governor Bob Taft, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) will soon begin to plan a statewide system of recreational trails that are interconnected, easily accessible and open to a variety of uses by people across Ohio.

Ohio Department of Natural ResourcesAs part of the process, ODNR has scheduled five regional meetings over the next 6 weeks to collect input from trail builders, managers, planners and citizens. The meetings will be used to gather information on existing and planned/potential state, regional, and community trails, to identify criteria and priorities for trail related financial assistance and to identify strategic issues and recommendations for carrying out the vision of statewide trails. Each meeting will have two sessions from 1:00 to 3:00 in the afternoon and from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening to accommodate different schedules.

If your club or organization has completed or is currently developing a local or regional trail plan, ODNR requests that you provide a copy of your plan, including maps, at the meeting. Riders interested in the potential of ATV/trailbike and snowmobile access to State Lands located throughout Ohio will want to attend these meetings to express interest in the integration of OHV access with the state's plans.

WHAT TO DO

Attend these meetings, provide brief, polite and concise comment, both written and oral.  Let ODNR know that there is a need for responsible motorized recreation opportunities and access in Ohio.  Ask that OHV recreation be integrated with the Statewide Trails Plan.  If you have specific recommendations for trails in your region, try to bring maps to provide to ODNR. If you cannot attend these meetings you still need to provide written comment. Send your comments to Bill Daehler, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Real Estate and Land Management, 1952 Belcher Drive, C-4, Columbus, OH 43224.

This is your chance to be proactive in protecting your right to ride!  Print this notice and distribute it at local motorcycle shops, and among all motorcycle & ATV riders and encourage them to provide comment as well.
