ATV Association Rides
Benefit Poker Run for Nick Kerlin
We need your Help!
Fellow ATV Riders
Several times
a year we ask that you help us by spending your
time and investing money to keep our trails
open. And you have always responded generously.
This time it is a little different! We are asking
you to help a fellow member and his family.
The
Utah ATV Association recently learned that Vice
President, Mark Kerlin's 6-year-old son, Nickolas,
has a fatal disease. Nick has a Diffuse Brainstem
Glioma, which is a tumor that is surrounded
by the brainstem. This type of tumor is not
operable which makes it terminal for Nickolas.
To continue life, the tumor will need to be
shrunk. Nick is being treated with an investigational
drug injection with radiation treatment five
days a week for six weeks. Nickolas has lost
three quarters of his strength on his left side
because of the pressure from the tumor on his
brain. With the radiation treatments some of
his strength is coming back slowly. As you can
imagine, the expense for this is great and is
placing an enormous financial strain on the
family. The Officers and the Board of Directors
have decided to cancel our scheduled April ride
and do a Benefit Poker Run for Nick Kerlin;
we have decided to have this ride close to Salt
Lake City to allow all members and non-members
to participate.
How can you help?
-
The Utah ATV
Association is having a meeting of the Officers
and the Board and Volunteer Members at Jim’s
Cafe, located on the southeast corner of
4100 South and Redwood Road at 7:00 pm Monday
the 1st of April. We need volunteers to
take flyers to dealers, your favorite cafe,
or public area. To assist in planning and
contacting dealers, other ATV Club's, and
clubs of all types. We are inviting 4x4
Clubs, Motorcycle Clubs, and any organization
that can help in this cause. You need not
be a paid member to come to the meeting,
just an individual with a desire to help
a fellow Rider during a most difficult time.
-
We will organize
committees at this meeting to go to your
favorite dealer and ask them to donate prizes
to be given away at the ride. Look thru
your garage and donate what ever you have
of value or send a contribution to the Utah
ATV Association.
-
We also need
volunteers to help prepare the dutch oven,
help conduct a ride, or assist in activities
for the children attending.
-
If you are
a member of a surrounding club or association
of any type, have a ride yourself or just
let your members know about this and place
it in your Newsletter for your members to
see. Join us to represent your club or organization
to show that other clubs care. All moneys
collected will be donated to the Kerlin
family to help with medical expenses.
Dealers Contributions
Any dealer or organization making a contribution
of prizes or cash in excess of $25.00 will have
your organization, business logo, or link to
your web-sight placed on the Internet sight
of the Utah ATV Association for a period of
one year free of charge. Individuals making
contributions of $25.00 or more will be listed
on a page for contributors along with the dealers
or organizations.
Where is the
Ride?
The ride will
be held at Five Mile Pass, southwest of Fairfield
about 2 miles. We will have multiple rides starting
at 10:00 am on April 20th. Check the Internet
for detailed maps and directions to the ride.
This will be a Poker Run with many prizes donated
by dealers and individuals. Poker hands will
be $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00 with all proceeds
going to the Benefit Poker Run for Nick Kerlin.
There will be
a Dutch oven dinner by the Utah ATV Association
with the help of your kind contributions of
items to place in the pot. The Association,
with your help, will prepare this meal for attending
riders and their families. Association members
will act as ride leaders having different rides
for different skill levels and for younger riders.
Bring the entire family and help a family through
some difficult times. Contributions will be
accepted at the ride for the Kerlin Family.
Make your plans now and let’s show how generous
the Utah ATV Association members are and how
in a time of need, we will be there for our
friends and fellow members.
