ATV Riding in Baja California, Mexico

It all got started Friday night when I was thinking about what to do at the weekend. So far I had no plans and more or less no idea what to do – until my friend Jimmy called me up. With him, things never get boring for he definitely knows where the fun stuff is. So, I already had the feeling I could expect something new, something crazy this time…
- “Jess, c’mon girl, pack your stuff! I’ll be at your house and pick you up in an hour!”
- “Pick me up? Pack my stuff? Where are we going? What are we gonna do?”
- “Don’t ask stupid questions! We’re going to San Diego! I booked a tour for us – one day bike- and ATV-riding in Baja California, Mexico!”
- “You gotta be kidding me! I can’t go riding, I’ve never done that before!” …. No time for discussions. Almost as quick as I could utter my doubts, Jimmy had already convinced me to go.

California Motorsport AdventoursWe got started to San Diego right away and spent the night there in a hotel. On the next morning, we went to the office of California Motorsport Adventours, the tour company Jimmy had booked our one-day trip with. After all the info he had given me about riding adventures, I was totally keen on going. It just sounded like too much fun! I was too curious if the whole thing really was as cool as it sounds… When we arrived at the company’s office, the friendly staff was already waiting for us. Having gone through some paper work, Sven, our tour guide, led us to the garage in the back, where we chose our gear – helmets, gloves, pants, boots – they had all the equipment in different sizes just waiting for us. “Jimmy didn’t promise too much, these guys were just great…!” I thought to myself. Everything was ready to go; the guide and his staff had already packed the bikes and ATV-quads onto the big trailer, and all we had to do was grab our gear and hop into the van. There we met the two other guys who had booked the same tour to Baja. Now I really was excited! After a short 90 minute drive along the coast, we reached our destination in Mexico. It looked like I was the only beginner on the ATV who didn’t have a clue how to ride, but I had no reason to worry, as I found out a short while after. The bikes and ATV’s were quickly unloaded and after putting on our gear, Sven gave us important safety instructions in a professional way.

Beautiful beach riding! The first part of our riding adventure took us to the beautiful beach, which is definitely the best location for those who haven’t ridden before – just like me. Our tour guide was extremely patient and helpful in getting me up and running. But this was just the beginning of this whole amazing tour. There we were, cruising along the coast line in bright sunshine and a nice soothing ocean breeze was blowing. After a sort while I caught eye of an incredible sight – dolphins were swimming across from us, right there between those splashing waves!
The next thing waiting to be explored by us were the sand dunes, next to the beach. All I can say is that surfing on my ATV through those dunes was a completely different riding experience. They really were like a giant sandbox to me and zooming around them I felt like a little kid again! It is just unbelievable, how quickly I got used to moving back and forth and turning right and left on the ATV. Still, I was even more impressed by our tour guide, an ex-professional dirt bike racer, who really knows how to move on that thing! Jimmy, the guys and me, we all had such a blast riding that we didn’t realize how fast time went by. Before guiding us onto the most adventurous part of this trip, Sven took us on the ATV’s and bikes to an authentic Mexican taco place. Filled with the best fish tacos I ever had in my whole life time, we hopped back onto our bikes and ATV’s to continue the last part of our offroad adventure tour.

Sand DunesNow it was time to explore some of Mexico’s backroads. What a thrilling experience! Again, our tour guide knew right where to go. Riding across the red ground, only a few wild bushes on the left and every once in a while a lonely hacienda on the right, I simply enjoyed the amazingly beautiful landscape. All those stunning impressions I collected during this whole riding experience will remain unforgettable and are almost too good to be packed into words. Above all, the riding itself was just out of this world and way too much fun to be legal! Each of us had a unique experience throughout the whole day – Jimmy and the guys being advanced bike and ATV riders, as well as myself being a complete novice on the ATV, but after this definitely more than that.

After this day full of fun and action on the bikes and ATV’s we were ready for another, more relaxing highlight of this tour. The CMA crew had made restaurant reservations for us, so we could fill our growling stomachs with fresh lobster. The restaurant staff happily welcomed us with handshakes – Sven’s face seemed to be well known at this place. In this nice and friendly atmosphere we enjoyed our delicious dinner while watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. And we had so many incredible impressions to share….

Wonderful sunsets like this are an experience while riding an ATV in the sand dunes!Wow! What a day! What else can I say? Never in my life would I have expected this whole thing to turn out to be an experience of a lifetime to me! On that trip everything just went so smooth – the tour was well organized, the guide was professional and knew how to keep everyone busy. I think these guys will see me again very soon because I’m already on withdraw symptoms!
