Coalition Recreation Trails
Dedicated to the protection and enhancement
of everyone's
right to health and happiness through recreation.
Washington,
D.C. Great Outdoors Week 2004, June 7 through 11,
will highlight the invaluable contributions active
outdoor recreation make to Americans' health and
quality of life. The week will again be coordinated
by the American Recreation Coalition (ARC) and will
include events hosted by more than 20 federal agencies
and national organizations. Public/private cooperative
ventures from Take Pride in America to WOW-Wonderful
Outdoor World will be highlighted, along with the
presentation of key awards including the Sheldon
Coleman Great Outdoors Award, ARC's Legends Awards
to top federal recreation program officials, and
best practices awards by the Coalition for Recreational
Trails and the States Organization for Boating Access.
Tuesday, June 8th, will begin with a new event
honoring best projects funded under the Wallop-Breaux
program that enhance access to the nation's public
waters for anglers and boaters. Then at noon the
seven best practices annual achievement awards will
be presented by the Coalition for Recreational Trails.
This year the winner of the Coalition for Recreational
Trails National Education and Communication Award
Category will be the Pennsylvania Off-Highway Vehicle
Association (PaOHV) for Sensible Courteous Off Road
Enthusiast (SCORE) training program. PaOHV Technical
Director Denny Mann will be accepting the award
for his SCORE training program.
SCORE is an educational training program for
participants in off highway vehicle recreation,
which advocates enhancing trail use and enjoyment
through increased environmental awareness, promotion
of trail related safety, and encouragement of trail
related outdoor recreation. SCORE demonstrates important
measures to be taken to protect wildlife and the
natural habitat in riding areas, and emphasizes
the need for responsible off highway enthusiasts
to respect the environment, and other users of Pennsylvania
forests and woodlands.
This
is a true honor for PaOHV to be selected for this
award. The non-motorized and the motorized segments
of trail users have so much in common. Hopefully,
the SCORE training program will promote cooperation
and respect between user groups. PaOHV would be
delighted to have the opportunity to visit with
clubs and organizations to present the SCORE training
program free of charge. To schedule a program contact
Denny Mann at 717-532-6439 or
dmann@paohv.org.
PaOHV would like to thank National Off-Highway
Vehicle Conservation Council, Pennsylvania Department
of Conservation and Natural Resources, Barry Fallon
at Document Management & Imaging Systems Inc., Representative
Bud Shuster, and PaOHV’s own Mike Babussi and Denny
Mann.
