Wayne National Forest
Attention: Wayne National Forest OHV Riders!
We need your help!

What's The Issue?
The Wayne National Forest has several proposed options on a new Forest Plan that guides their direction for the next 10 years. While all these plans include our OHV trails none have enough expansion included to keep up with demand and none lay the groundwork to develop the trail system into the recreational area we would like it to be. Only public input can give Forest Service management the reasons needed to make the changes we want.

What Can I Do?
The planning team will take feedback from users until the end of June on suggestions on any changes the plan needs. If we can show enough public support to justify altering these plan options to include more trail development we can have that as part of the Wayne National Forest's goals over that time period. While this doesn't guarantee we will get exactly what we want not having in the plan assures us that we won't. Writing a letter to the planning team today is critical. With the trails being closed this spring we are also seeing more local businesses getting involved as they now realize how many dollars we contribute to the local economy. That makes our voice much stronger but we must speak in order to be heard! Letters need to reach the Forest Service planning team by June 30th so we must move quickly!

What Should I Say?
Let them know that you use the trails and would like to see any plan they adapt be changed to reflect the following changes:

  • Increase the Trail Density from 2.0-3.5 miles of trail/square mile to 3.0-5.5 miles/square mile.
  • Increase the new trail construction goals from a minimum of 21 miles to 75 miles.
  • Increase the maximum new trail construction miles from 124 miles to 150 miles.
  • Recommend that emphasis should be put onto tying the trail system into local businesses that provide the amenities you want such as gas stations, restaurants, camping, etc.
  • If you have other suggestions the should be part of the master plan feel free to add your ideas.

Who Do I Contact?
Letters can be mailed to:
USDA Forest Service
Attn: Forest Plan Revision Team
13700 Hwy 33
Nelsonville, OH 4445764

Faxed To: 740-753-0118

E Mailed To: comments-eastern-wayne@fs.fed.us

When Can I Complain?
You can never complain about the results if you don't make an effort to change them!

What About Questions I Have?
All the information about the proposed plans and the procedures are available on the Wayne National Forest's website at www.fs.fed.us/r9/wayne/index.htm or you can contact their headquarters at 740-753-0101.
