Price County Wisconsin Offers
Authentic Northwood’s Experience
As
you probably already know, the Northwoods of Northern
Wisconsin have become a year-round favorite for
Midwest nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Activities
run the gamut from fishing and hunting to cross
county skiing and snowmobiling to bird watching,
ATVing, and hiking.
When discussing the Northwoods, the majority
of attention typically focuses on the recreational
areas surrounding the cities of Hayward and Minocqua.
Unfortunately, the overwhelming popularity of these
communities has attracted so much attention that
the charm and “away from civilization” feel that
made them so popular in the first place has been
diminished by the hordes of visitors.
That’s why we thought our readers would love
to learn about Price County, Wisconsin, a still
“undiscovered” recreational jewel that has so much
to offer. The location is in between Hayward (45
miles southeast) and Minocqua (35 miles west), and
only about a tank of gas away from many metropolitan
areas like Chicago (5 to 6 hours), Minneapolis (3
to 4 hours), Milwaukee (4 ½ hours) and Madison (3
hours).
Price County definitely provides the true Northwood’s
experience. It’s the state’s 5th largest county
by land area and includes 147,000 acres of Chequamegon-Nicolet
National Forest, more than 118,000 acres of State
and County Forest land, 6 County parks and more
than 300 miles of trails for snowmobile and ATV
enthusiasts. The county also is home to the North
and South Forks of the Flambeau River, widely known
as an excellent canoe/kayaking trail and one of
the best white water trips in the Midwest.
The vast lands of Price County are home to many
different types of wildlife including Black Bear,
Whitetail Deer, Timber Wolves, coyotes, Snowshoe
Hare, Ruffed Grouse, loons, hawks, owls, ducks,
and geese, Bald Eagles, Osprey and Great Blue Herons.
Fishing in the Flambeau River is world renown for
Lake Sturgeon, Muskie, Walleyes and Smallmouth Bass.
Because of its yet-to-be discovered status, Price
County is not only a great location to recreate,
but also provides an exceptional opportunity for
those individuals or families looking to buy a piece
of the Northwoods experience but can’t afford the
steep property values that currently exist in the
Hayward or Minocqua areas.
Kirk Zelinske and Tim Savino, developers of an
about to open eco-friendly recreational community
in Price County called
South Fork, fell in love with the area and
have become two of the county’s biggest supporters.
