Bush administration extends
comment deadline for forest land sales
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA)
has announced that off-road vehicle users will
have additional time to comment on plans by the
Bush administration to sell approximately
300,000 acres of public land.
The Bush administration extended the deadline
to May 1 for the public to comment on its
proposal to sell U.S. Forest Service land to
help pay for rural schools. The previous
deadline was March 30. The government plans to
sell a total of 300,000 acres in 35 states,
ranging from 76,000 acres in California to 80
acres in Wisconsin.
The sales are expected to raise about $800
million over five years.
The AMA is monitoring the plans to sell
public land to ensure that the sales will not
impact off-road riding opportunities, which are
already dwindling nationwide.
Comments must be received by May 1. You may
submit comments by e-mail to
SRS_Land_Sales@fs.fed.us,
by fax to (202) 205-1604, or by mail to USDA
Forest Service, SRS Comments, Lands 4S, 1400

The U.S. Forest Service notes that electronic
submission of comments is preferred, and that if
you submit your comments by e-mail or fax, you
need not send a paper copy by mail.
Your comments may address the entire proposal
of selling of the forest land, or can refer to
specific parcels.
