The 2007 Polaris X2
By Clint Hood

The X2 cargo box has a dump feature, not
found on competing 2-up ATVs.

The cargo box can easily be transformed into
a 2-up seat. |
New for 2007, Polaris offers the new X2 in
both a 500 EFI and an 800 EFI. The X2 is unique
to the ATV market because it’s the only ATV
which offers a transforming, two-position seat
for 2-up riding. In addition, the 2-up seat will
also fold down creating a cargo box if there is
only one rider aboard. The X2 cargo box also has
a dump feature to ease unloading. This is an
important feature, and not found on competing
2-up ATVs.
The cargo box has a 400-lb. capacity, which
is supported by Polaris’ fully independent rear
suspension, providing 8.5 inches of ground
clearance and 11 inches of ground clearance. The
X2 features 2-stage springs, which are angled
and improve the ride by causing the wheel travel
to move both up and back. The angled springs
combined with the wide front wheel stance
provide an excellent enhancement to the handling
of the ATV, even when carrying a passenger.
Like other Sportsman models, the X2 engines
are equipped with the Engine Braking System (EBS),
which is a great help in navigating slow and
rough terrain. The X2 also features Polaris’
innovative Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI).
Polaris was one of the first manufacturers to
offer EFI in their ATVs. EFI makes the vehicle
much easier to start and reliable as compared to
carbureted bikes. Also, there is no need for
adjustment due to changes in altitude and
temperature. Owners of EFI machines will also
enjoy better gas mileage and more even throttle
response than their carbureted counterparts.

The front storage area has a 90-lb. capacity
and drain plugs allow the area to be used as a
cooler as well. |
The X2 features the Polaris Variable
Transmission (PVT), which is the industry’s all
time best-selling automatic transmission. In
this system, the transmission is constantly
sensing speed and torque to provide the correct
amount of power to drive the wheels.
Another feature equipped on the X2 is the
Polaris VERSATRAC system. This system allows the
rider to easily choose either “Turf," or
all-wheel drive. While in Turf mode, the X2
achieves a 20 percent tighter turning radius and
minimizes damage to soft terrain. The ATV can be
switched to all-wheel drive while on the go and
offers true four-wheel traction.
The X2 also possesses front storage
containers, similar to the containers offered on
their other utility models. The front storage
area has a 90 lb capacity and drain plugs allow
the area to be used as a cooler as well.

The X2 features a receiver hitch, rear work
lights, and angled rear suspension. |
A 6-gallon gas tank is the largest in its
class and is a great asset on those all-day
rides. Raised floorboards and handles add to the
comfort of the second rider. The 1500-lb. towing
capacity is also largest in class and a receiver
hitch is standard.
Like other Sportsman models, the X2 is
available in either a standard or deluxe model.
The deluxe model includes all of the features in
the standard model, plus a 2500-lb. Polaris
winch, cast aluminum wheels, and active descent
control. The 500 model also has a few more color
choices.
Overall, the X2 is one of the most powerful,
innovative, and versatile ATVs available today.
Polaris has done an excellent job in combining
the strongest features from their well-respected
Sportsman line into this unique machine. The X2
meets the needs of many utility ATV owners and
is expected to be a tremendous seller.
The X2 is currently available, along with
other Polaris ATVs as part of the Polaris “Free
Ride Until 2008” sales event. In this promotion,
Polaris is offering no down payment, no payment,
and no interest until January 2008. See full
