All-terrain vehicle recreationists are a fortunate group because their hobby is so flexible. You can ride your machines on flat hard land, in deserts, rocky trails, and through swirling streams. Also, if your passion is to ride through rugged mountain forests with a few lakes for scenic views, then you probably would want to know about Stonewater Cove Resort.

Stonewater Cove, in southwest Missouri, is a private retreat of about 500 acres on the shores of Table Rock Lake and surrounded by the Mark Twain National Forest.

The National Forest is massive--1.5 million acres running from central to southern Missouri and includes natural and wilderness areas as well as the Eleven Point National Scenic River, a 44-mile float river. Several of the districts of the forest including Ava/Cassville/Willow Springs Ranger District, Salem Ranger District and the Chadwick Motorcycle and ATV Use Area, allow ATV recreational riding.

Also, according to Randi Bond, vice president of marketing for Stonewater Cove, there are 20 miles of ATV trails located throughout the resort that wind through about 500 acres of forest mountain property. Bond said that the terrain on the trails is suitable for beginners as well as advanced ATV riders and are maintained and used only by the resort. Guests of the resort can also hike and mountain bike through many of them.

The resort offers guided ATV rides and tours for guests. They do not rent ATVs nor do they encourage people to bring their ATVs to the resort. The rides/tours are one hour and two hours in length.

No doubt if you are an enthusiastic ATVer, then you are passionate about other outdoor sports. Stonewater Cove Resort offers a number of non-guided activities including kayaking, canoeing, hiking, mountain biking, dock fishing, and swimming. Signature guided activities include ATV tours, zip lines, ranger tours, clay shooting, leisure boat rides, water sports, archery, low ropes chevron course, and horseback riding. The resort provides all the equipment you will need to enjoy these activities. The staff will also arrange guided fishing trips, helicopter tours, and spa services upon request.

Indoor activities include a media room where guests can watch DVD movies on a big screen television and a Wii gaming console with games. For those old timers, the resort also offers board games.

The luxurious accommodations offer four different settings--luxury king, double queen, one-bedroom suite and two-bedroom suite.

All rooms are individually decorated with refined, but rustic decor. Rooms include a bubble tub, rainfall shower room, and Eco Boutique toiletries. The rooms also include free Wi-Fi Internet access, a flat screen television with satellite cable, coffee and teas as well as freshly baked cookies in your room upon arrival.

The lodge includes a dining room with a view of Table Rock Lake and meals are included with any stay at the resort. Breakfasts are made to order and gourmet dinners vary from barbecue to five course meals.

The resort's rates are divided into two categories--standard and adventure. The standard rate includes accommodations, meals, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages and all non-guided activities. The adventure rate includes the standard rate plus all regularly scheduled guided activities for up to three guests per day. Prices are based on the type of room you choose, the number of guests in the party, and the season of your visit. Currently a two-night stay for two in a luxury king room at standard rates during the fall is $1,145.59. The price includes service charges and tax. Tipping is forbidden, but a 15 percent service charge is included in the total charge.

The resort does offer special packages. The current package is called the Pumpkins, Turkey, and Spice Package and includes a complimentary third night for any two-night reservation for any stay up to January 2, 2011. Offers cannot be combined.

Reservations can be made online or by phone. For more information call (417) 858-2563 or visit the resort's website at:
