HomePress Releases › Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area: Forest Service Seeks Input on Use

For immediate release

Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area:
Forest Service seeks input on use.

The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is under review by the US Forest Service. Under this review the Forest Service is seeking input on the limiting of sand camping,
especially the holiday weekends, and large events such as DuneFest. Sand camping is loosely defined as camping out in the sand dunes, not in a designated campground and site.

The Forest Service is seeking input and opinions on proposed usage. The Forest Service presents that users have expressed a feeling of being “cramped” or “crowded” and the user’s dune experience is being diminished. A possible solution the Forest Service has, would be to eliminate sand camping, thereby reducing the number of users on any given weekend, especially the holiday weekends.

Please go to the Oregon Dunes User Poll, take a few moments to complete the polls and to submit an email to the Forest Service expressing your opinion on their proposed changes.
