KATHLEEN CLARKE, BLM DIRECTOR TO BE KEYNOTE
SPEAKER AT ATV EXPO INDUSTRY MEETING
Gardnerville, NV – July 19, 2004 - Kathleen Clarke, Director
of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), is confirmed as the
Keynote speaker at the ATV EXPO and World’s Fair Industry
Breakfast to be held at the Kentucky International Convention
Center. The Industry Breakfast meeting, which will be the first
gathering of the ATV Industry as a whole, will be held October
14, 2004 at 8:00 a.m. before the grand opening of the Expo.
As Director of the BLM, Clarke is responsible for the
agency’s stewardship of 262 million surface acres of BLM-managed
public land, more than 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral
estate across the nation and a budget of about $1.8 billion. The
BLM, an agency of the U.S. Department of the Interior, is the
nation’s largest land manger and administers a variety of
activities on the public land in accordance with its
multiple-use mandate.
Ms. Clarke will address an audience comprised primarily of
ATV manufacturers, aftermarket companies, dealers/retailers and
ATV industry leaders. Critical issues for this $10 to $15
billion per year industry are the importance of providing trails
and acceptable riding areas in every state in the union,
including on public lands administered by the BLM and the U.S.
Forest Service. This informative and significant event will also
discuss laws, policies, future federal government plans and
riding areas, which are all of great importance to the ATV
industry. Ms. Clarke will also hold a Q&A with those attending.
Clarke has served as Director of the BLM since 2001.
Previously, she was Executive Director of the Utah Department of
Natural Resources. Before that, she served that Department as
Deputy Director, starting in 1993. Clarke also worked for Rep.
James V. Hansen (R-Utah) from 1987 to 1993 as Director of
Constituent Services and Executive Director of Rep. Hansen's
office in Ogden, Utah.
The ATV EXPO is being held October 14-17, 2004, at the
Kentucky International Convention Center in downtown Louisville
KY. For up to the minute information regarding the expo, hotel
