The stock intake and air box system on the Honda TRX250R can become restrictive when the engine is modified for high output.  Additionally, typically when modifications are performed to the engine, a larger diameter carburetor is installed as well.  The stock carburetor in on 250R is only 34mm. Most high output engines use at least a 38mm carb.  The stock intake boot is very difficult to install.

As mentioned when the engine is modified for high output, the amount of intake air required increases as well.  The stock air box, with lid installed, simply will not flow enough air to supply a well tuned high output engine.  To alleviate this, you can remove the air box lid, which helps in some cases, but ultimately, you might as well not run an airbox all together.  In the case of most riders who ride in the sand dunes, an airbox is simply not needed.  The benefit is increased available air as mentioned, as well as, a greatly cleaned up look for your ride.

ESR Airbox Eliminator KitEddie Sanders Racing, offers an airbox eliminator kit that totally eliminates the stock airbox, provides a larger diameter boot for ease of installation on larger diameter carbs, and is a neat and clean look for your quad.  The kit comes complete with a hi-flow K&N air filter, the necessary tubing and clamps, and an Outwear to use with the K&N.

ESR Eliminator Kit MountedIn the case of the ESR center mount pipes, the filter elimination kit is required.  The air box is too large and bulky to provide room for the silencer AND air filter.  The air filter and silencer fit very well together between the frame rails.

Installation is equally as simple.  Remove the stock snorkel, air box assembly, and intake boot.  Prior to beginning any of this work, ensure that the work area and parts are clean and free of any debris that would possibly contaminate the intake tract.  Installation of the kit is again simple.  Place the boot over the carb, install the aluminum sleeve, clamp the filter on, position the filter, and slide the outerwear over the filter element.

ESR Eliminator KiteThe supplied sleeve slid easily over a 40.5mm Keihin carb, which with the stock intake boot was very difficult to do without heating the intake boot to make it stretch.  Other benefits included, when used with an aftermarket reed cage or reed block spacer, no longer is it a hassle to get the airbox forward or aft far enough to mate up properly.

As with ANY modification that alters the intake, combustion, or exhaust of any engine.  Re-check and verify your jetting.  ATV Source does not recommend a filter elimination kit for any rider that may ride in very wet or extremely dusty conditions.

ESR offers their kit for $35.00, the kit comes complete with filter, the required tubing and hardware.  Outerwares are also available for $12.95.
