Product Review:
Weapon MX Tank G-Zero Foam
What Is It:
Weapon MX tank G-Zero foam is a revolutionary new
product on the market that has been proven as
one of the best accessories to improve handling
and track performance in a variety of off-road
vehicles. Weapon MX tank G-Zero foam is reticulated polyurethane foam.
This foam is new on the motorsports market, but
is not a new invention. It is military spec foam
that has been put through rigorous testing
and been proven to be of such high grade that it
is used in all government fighter jets and
tanks. The foam is also so porous that it
only takes 2-3% of the volume of the tank and
also has a 30 year lifetime.
Installation:
Installation was a snap. Make sure to clean the
area around the gas tank so nothing accidentally
falls into your tank. Then you simply compress
one end of the foam and start filling your tank.
(Clean a T-handle with some contact cleaner and
use it to move the foam around inside the tank)
The foam comes in small rectangles and stack
like building blocks inside your tank.

Compressing one end allows you to
fill the tank with G-Zero foam. |

Ride Review:
Prior to installation I filled the tank up
halfway (as Weapon MX recommends). I then took
the bike out and rode a Moto. This is done to
provide a baseline with which to compare the
Weapon MX foam filled tanks. After the Moto I
installed the foam and rode another Moto. The
track I was riding had a lot of elevation
changes so I noticed right away that the bike
felt more solid and grounded. What I mean by
that is that the bike was more responsive, and
easier to control in the corners. The feeling of
a lower center of gravity and improved handling
is what Weapon MX claims, and it’s exactly what
they deliver.

During high speed corning, gas does
not slush around creating extra
side-to-side forces. |

Without the extra up and down force
of 3-6 Ibs. of gas, one has better
control entering and exiting the
whoops. |
Conclusion:
The key to G-Zero foam is its
thousands of pores. These pores are
what eliminate the sudden and violent
sloshing of fuel within the tank, most often
felt in tight turns, breaking bumps and
G-outs where your 3-6 lbs of fuel can feel
more like 25-30 lbs of fuel sloshing from
front to back and side to side. We
would recommend any racer pick up this very
cost effective solution and end those extra
forces associated with sloshing fuel.
