Home Racing Daniel Boone Motocross Park - GNC Round 2 Results

2001 GNC ATV National
Round 2
Daniel Boone Motocross Park
London, Kentucky

Tim Farr and Doug Gust Battling thur the whoopsDaniel Boone Motocross Park hosted Round 2 of the AMA ATV GNC Nationals during the weekend of March 31 - April 1.

A multitude of hardy ATV enthusiasts, riders, and track workers braved the adverse weather conditions to enjoy a weekend filled with competitive racing and challenging track condition.

ATV Source was on hand to take on the wild weather and capture the ATV racing action.

Did we say it was muddy?Saturday's qualifying events started with a very wet and muddy track.  The track condition had a consistency of mud soup to say the least.  The  weather was cloudy with temperatures in the upper 50s lower 60s combined with a steady drizzle throughout the day. Most racers were covered from head to toe with mud even before finishing the first lap. Riders had the daunting task of trying to keep dry and mud free, but to no avail.  We saw riders trying their best to keep their goggles clean, but with the conditions of soup like soil, goggles where of no use.  Many riders rode with their goggles wrapped around their left arm as they tried to conquer Saturday's soupy qualifying rounds.

Stuck in the mud while getting roosted by other riders...Fun!!Sunday was Pro race day, but the new day posed an even bigger challenge over Saturday's qualifying.  We were awakened to thunder showers as about a half inch of rain pounded the area.  The track, which was a soupy mess from Saturday, turned into a real mud fest.  More reminiscent of a mud bog contest for the 4X4 crowd.

Morning light awoke the track to 30 degrees weather, standing puddles, and winds blowing around 10 to 15 mph. Not your ideal racing weather.  Several Pro riders had flash backs to the 2000 DB races as they saw the rain turn to a mixture of snow before it turned back into rain.

Farr and Jones jetting across the Finish Line jump.Nevertheless, weather this crazy did not keep the die-hard ATV racing fans from streaming into the park to see their top riders take on the monster MX track. A record crowd was on hand to fill the infield and stands to see their top Pro riders. As the day wore on, the sun began to peak through the clouds given us hope we'd see a track just right for the pros to give the fans a heck of a show.  Sure enough, throughout the day, the clouds began to give way to mostly sunny skies.  With the winds and sun, the track began to show life that it was going to be a very exciting Pro race.  Heck, it dried out so much that it even became dusty in some sections.

Tim Farr Hole-shot King at DB.Tim Farr grabbed the hole-shot in both Pro races, moto1 and moto2, netting him double payout Hole-Shot King checks.  Farr, Doug Gust, Kory Ellis, and Jeremiah Jones battled it out in both pro races with highflying competitive racing.  Though Farr mastered the hole-shot, he was unable to maintain his lead throughout the races.  Ellis and Gust provided plenty of racing heat and pressure to pass Farr and win respectively in each race.

Doug Gust - Overall WinnerMoto2 provided the best racing action as Farr held his led for the first couple of laps.  Doug Gust and Jeremiah Jones were not far behind. On the 3rd lap through the main event, Doug Gust passed Farr for the lead and never looked back.  Doug Gust cruised to an easy victory with a 15 second lead over second place Farr.  Gusts victory was his fourth win at Daniel Boone MX Park.  He's victory also marked the first ever win by an Suzuki 4-Stroke at Daniel Boone.  The real battle was between Tim Farr and Jeremiah Jones.  These guys were going at it at every corner and jump, but Farr was able to hold Jeremiah at bay.
