ATV Source - Racing - 2001 - GNC ATV Nationals - Muddy Creek Raceway

Muddy Creek Raceway hosted round 4 of the Maxxis/AMA ATV GNC Nationals and ATV Source was on hand to witness all of the highflying bar-to-bar ATV racing action. The Source Crew received a double dose of ATV racing this weekend as we attended the GNCC at Sparta, KY and finished our weekend with the GNC at Blountville, TN. What a weekend road trip!! I climbed into bed Sunday night at 1:00am and 5 hours later found myself at my day job. You know, the one that pays the bills.

The Source really liked the Muddy Creek track and its layout. The track is nestled in the rolling hills of Northeastern Tennessee. Racing fans could easily watch all of the racing action from several hilltop locations. We applaud the Victory Sports Racing Crew as they promoted and hosted an outstanding event. Perfect weather conditions were ordered up especially for this event as over 400 racers signed up.

Tim Farr captured the overall win by holding off a relentless Doug Digger Gust in the final moto. Farr continued his holeshot prowess as he launched his Baldwin Motorsports 440CC YZ Thumper to win the holeshot award in each moto.

The first moto saw Tim Farr, Travis Spader, and Jason Luburgh leading the pack as they snaked their way around the track. Luburgh made an early move to pick up second while Spader fell back to third. Doug Gust had a terrible start and was in the 12th position. Spader made a gutsy moved as he whicked his throttle and piloted his quad over the huge step-up tabletop putting him back into second place. Unfortunately, he tweaked a rim on the landing which caused him to drop off the pace and out of the race for a podium finish. At the half way point, Doug Gust had powered his TC/Hinson Racing 4-Stroke Suzuki through the pack and was quickly moving up on second place Jeremiah Jones who was riding an outstanding race.

Farr and Jones battled it out at every corner for most of the moto. The racing action was intense as the fans rose to their feet and yelled every time Jeremiah made a move. Jones made several last lap moves on Farr, but was shut down as Farr held his position to the flag. The finish was Farr, Jones, and Gust.

In the second moto it was Farr, Gust, and Jones leading at the first corner. Gust applied pressure on Farr for half the moto until he passed Farr for the lead and eventually the moto2 win. Jones was again with the leaders and putting together another spectacular ride as he watched Farr and Gust battle. Jones' efforts to podium were dashed as he suffered a blown shock which allowed Joe Byrd to pass him for third and dropped Jones to the 4th position at the finish. Byrd put on a great display of riding to keep up with Gust, Farr, and Jones. While watching our video we noticed Byrd was actually gaining ground on the leaders at the end of the race.
