Suzuki/Yoshimura's Jeremiah Jones Dominates
Budds Creek
Leonardtown, MD - April 2, 2006 - The sun
shone brightly today as a record number of
spectators flocked to watch what Jeremiah Jones
will certainly refer to as "his perfect day."?
Although he was in familiar territory atop the
podium from last year's win at Unadilla, NY,
this year has been a tough go for this Kentucky
rider. Freak events have kept him off the podium
throughout most of this season, but there was no
denying the Bowling Green, Kentucky native
victory today.
The first moto roared to life with John Natalie
in the lead followed by Pat Brown, Joe Byrd and
Doug Gust. Jeremiah Jones spun off the gate and
was mid-pack and seemed out of contention.
Natalie pulled out about a 4 second lead and
looked to be pulling out. Pat Brown experienced
some problems and soon, it settled into Natalie,
Byrd, and Gust.? Jones meanwhile was on a
mission. Jeremiah "The Gunslinger" Jones was
passing riders in groups of three and four on
his march to the front. By the halfway point, he
had worked up to 4th while the top three riders
had pushed up to Natalie's rear bumper.
Over the 90' uphill step-up jump Joe Byrd and
Gust came together. The resultant wreck saw both
riders stuck untangling their machines as Jones
went through for second place. Byrd got going
again in 8th place while Digger Doug got going
in 16th.
Back up front Jones made it look easy as he got
around Natalie quickly and rode to a well
deserved win. Natalie ended up second, while
Chad Wienen rode to an impressive third. Gust
had to settle for a disappointing 11th.
Moto two saw Jones and Natalie share the lead
heading into the first turn. Natalie ended up
running Jeremiah a bit wide and snagged the
holeshot.? This time Gust started in mid pack as
did Joe Byrd.
There really wasn't much of a race after that as
Jeremiah and his LT-R450 Suzuki simply motored
away from the field on his way to an easy
victory. Jeremiah's 1-1 score gave him the
overall win on the day. Jones was encouraged as
he explained, "People kept telling me to just
keep my head up and do my homework and keep
putting out the effort day in and day out.? I
guess it's starting to pay off and it feels just
great."
Gust rode up to 6th in moto two for an eighth
overall on the day. "Joe and I got together in
the first moto and that sort of set the tone for
the day," Gust said after the race, "I had some
problems in the second race as well, but I'm
getting out of here without too much damage
points wise. I had fast lap times all day so I
know what I need to do. I'll be back after 'em
at the next one."
Wayne Hinson was pretty happy on the day, "In
all my years of racing, I've never had a brand
new quad perform this well. Normally, it takes
at least a season to get things dialed in. I
think the speed of Doug and Jeremiah has made a
loud and clear statement about how good this new
Suzuki LTR is. You'll see a lot more wins before
the season ends."
