POWERSPORTS ATV CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR RELEASES 2006
RULEBOOK
WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. (April 25, 2006) — The
WPSA PowerSports ATV Championship Tour released
its 2006 Rulebook today. The Rulebook, as well
as the 2006 Supplementary Regulations, can be
downloaded in PDF format at PowerSportsTour.com.
The Tour kicks off the 2006 season May 20 at the
Daniel Boone MX in London, Ky.
Mirroring existing rules used nationally in
ATV racing, the PowerSports ATV Championship
Tour Rulebook also includes new rules governing
both its QuadMX and QuadTerrain Challenge
Series. Both Series will run Championship events
throughout the United States, and will be
telecast on ESPN2.
The Tour will award Drivers’ Championships in
all of its classes, including Professional,
Amateur and Youth, as well as Manufacturers’ and
Rookie of the Year Championships for its
Professional classes. There are several other
new rules aimed at improving competition and
safety.
“We are pleased to announce the availability
of our WPSA ATV rulebook online,” said
PowerSports Entertainment, Inc. CEO Rick Murphy.
“We believe it is important that our rulebook be
consistent with other sanctioning bodies so that
riders have more opportunity to race their
existing equipment. We also think our fresh
ideas will please the competitors and the TV
audience alike.
“Exciting racing action will be great for
fans at the venues and showcasing our Tour ATV
professionals on TV will help grow the sport.
The WPSA rulebook is an important step in that
direction,” added Murphy. “We’re looking forward
to the start of the season.”
Operated by PowerSports Entertainment, Inc.,
the Tour is sanctioned by the World PowerSports
Association, North America’s largest and most
respected powersports sanctioning body, and
promoter of ATV and snowmobile racing on both
the regional and national level. WPSA also
sanctions the ATV Tour’s sister series: the
PowerSports Snowmobile Championship Tour.
The ATV Championship Tour will host 10 events
this season at seven venues. All 10 races will
be telecast on ESPN2 in midday, one-hour,
weekend timeslots. The television schedule
represents a first for ATV racing, and follows a
successful run of Snowmobile Championship Tour
television events. Television shows begin airing
on June 3 and will run through Sept. 10.
The ATV Tour will operate two racing series
at each venue this season: the “QuadMX Series”
and the “QuadTerrain Challenge Series.” QuadMX
will consist of professional and pro-am sport MX
racing on pro-style, big-air MX racing circuits.
The QuadTerrain Challenge comprises professional
and pro-am sport utility racing on purpose-built
all-terrain racing circuits. ATVs allowed to
compete will include stock, near-stock
utility-type, and modified.
