April 7-9 Stateline Super Moto Challenge
2nd Annual Super Moto Challenge: Las Vegas
Local Runs Away with the Loot

moto Daryl Rath here ahead of Nic

It’s time to roll the dice folks at the second
annual Stateline Super Moto Challenge. The race
is held in the back parking lot of the Primm
Valley Resort of Buffalo Bills in Primm, Nevada.
The fans where out in full force as well has the
blistering desert sun. Sun block and sunglasses
where a necessity. They where selling out
fast on vendors row. The promoter, Marche Karger,
put on a great race with a beautifully laid out
track and an awesome rider party on Saturday
night. This event offered an array of classes
for motorcycles big or small along with ATVs and
side-x-side (UTV). At the end of Sunday the boys
over at H-Bomb Films had a special treat for the
race fans. They had a little
freestyle show put
on by their own Bomb Squad.

This crazy machine with a TRX250R
chassis and Banshee enige really was tearing the
track up. |
The weekend was non-stop racing action with
so many classes and so little time. Action
didn’t stop there with some of the big names
like Jeff Ward, Carey Hart, David Pingree,
Mickey Diamond, and Troy Lee of helmet paint
fame all racing the motorcycle classes. Then we
have their four wheeled counterpart the
ATV
class racers came from as far away as Minnesota.
The Minnesota native is a well know national
racer gone entrepreneur by building his own line
of ATV accessories. Daryl Rath of Rath Racing
would lead and win the heat race, but would have
to settle for second overall as well as in the
main. Nic Granland would take home the overall
win for the weekend. Nic is also an entrepreneur in
the ATV industry by building engines locally in
Las Vegas under the name of Nic Granland Racing
(NGR). Jason Anderson rounded out the podium
in third.
Overall there was a good ATV turn out with it
only being the second ever ATV supermoto race. Also this year they upped the ante by increasing
the pro purse to $8500.

ATV super moto racing has really taken
off and seems to grow every event. |
Then they let the
Rhinos and the UTVs
run loose on the track. They drove the miniature
off-road vehicles around the asphalt section and
then launched them over the jumps in the back
dirt section of the course. They definitely
where putting these machines through the best
and worst of both terrain extremes, truly
punishing these vehicles. Once all the fun and
games where done Dana Creech took home first
place honors, after dropping out of the ATV race
earlier in the weekend.
The big boys on two wheels rolled out some of
the biggest names and just straight legends of
the industry. With the like of Wardy and Troy
Lee on the track it was bound to be some good
racing. In the open class Wardy would battle it
out with the number eleven of Chris Fillmore. Mickey
Diamond would take home a top 10 finish coming
up
seventh overall. Wardy wouldn’t be out done,
as he would take the open class win. Chris
Fillmore would take second followed by Troy Herfoss. Fillmore would later win the 450 class
just ahead of Steve drew. Kurt Nicoll aboard his
KTM would take third followed by Mickey Diamond
in fourth.
