Borich Wins PM Race while
Women’s Class Rider Stefanie Verkade takes the
AM Race
The North American Warhorse of Dunmore
Pennsylvania was the location for Round 8 of the
Atlantic Grand Prix. The Warhorse, as many
riders have nicknamed it, is known for its
Challenging rock sections, cooling creek
crossings, and fast trails. Dale Freitas, the
series promoter, surprised the riders of round 8
with a newly revised course just over 8 miles in
length. The new course cut out some of the
sections washed out by over 12 inches of rain
from the end of June. In addition to the cut out
sections, Dale had the direction of the course
reversed to make the course even more exciting.
With temperatures in the low 80’s the weather
was great for Racing.
Youth Riders Austin Findley out of New
Providence, PA and Brandi Harmon out of
Sherburne, NY had again returned to the
Warhorse. Around 10 AM, Dale let the youth ATV’s
loose on shortened woods course. Austin was
riding very fast, but at the end of his 4th lap
Tyler Stracham was the first to appear out of
the woods with Austin close behind. Austin was
suffering from a flat tire but was still running
as hard as his Modified Kasea would allow him to
go. Tyler Stracham Finished first overall, with
Austin Findley finishing first in the 8-15 90cc
Production Modified class and second overall.
Tyler G. Seiverd out of Quarryville, PA finished
third overall.
The AM Race, which has featured extremely
exciting racing action in the past was no
different for Round 8. Chris Borich, Stefanie
Verkade, Timothy McAndrew and many other
talented riders were lined up and ready to be
the first riders to hit the revised 8 mile
course. Short into the race McAndrew and Borich
were up front and riding hard. They put together
some exciting laps pushing each other a lot.
Unfortunately, half way through the third lap,
Chris Borich’s Honda Rincon snapped a rear axle
taking him out of the race. At the end of
McAndrew’s third lap, he was also taken out of
the race due to a broken lower left A-arm on his
Kawasaki V-Force. With McAndrew and Borich out
of the race,
Stefanie Verkade stepped up and
placed first overall followed by Chris Peipher
and James Eaton second and third respectively in
addition to placing first in their classes.
Chris Borich, Sean Neidlinger, Rob Hertz, and
Scott Samuel were just some of the Pros lined up
to race in the PM Race of Round 8 at the
Warhorse. Right off the line, the pros charged
into the woods with Borich out front. Neidlinger
was knocked out of the race within the first lap
along with Rob Hertz later in the race. This
gave Pro Am rider Kenny Campbell the chance to
move his way towards the front behind Pro rider
Scott Samuel who was running in second. By the
end of the 4th lap, Borich had put in a 4 minute
lead between Samuel and finished first overall.
Campbell finished 3rd overall behind Samuel.
Kenny Campbell has been riding strong all
season currently standing first in points of the
Pro Am Class with over a 30 point lead on Steven Stracka and Ralph Johnson who are currently in
second and third respectively.
The next race is Round 9 at the Logan Farm in
New Berlin, New York, on August 20th. The trail
staff has been working every weekend adding new
stuff and everyone is really going to be
surprised! For those that are coming up for the
first time... get ready for off-road Nirvana!
This is without a doubt the BEST Off-Road course
anywhere in the Eastern United States!
