WINNER WIMMER SNAGS TWO-POINT
LEAD AND BECKMAN DOMINATES
DURING SATURDAY'S POWERSPORTS ATV TOUR RACEWAY
PARK SHOW
ENGLISHTOWN,
N.J. (Aug. 19, 2006) — The battle between rookie
greatness and veteran experience continued
Saturday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park as
rookie Dustin Wimmer won Saturday’s WPSA
PowerSports ATV Tour SuperQuad Pro 450 race,
ahead of longtime motocross legend Doug Gust.
Meanwhile, Rory Beckman dominated the
QuadTerrain Challenge Pro Stock race, earning
his first victory.
The race will be telecast on ESPN2 on Sunday,
Aug. 27 at 1 a.m. EDT.
Josh Creamer (No. 270 K & K ATV, Robbs Racing
Engines, Ohlins/Honda) took the lead in
SuperQuad Pro 450 event after Travis Spader (No.
30 Progressive Suspension/Yamaha) won the $1,000
Quad MagazineHoleshot Award. Riding from third,
Wimmer grabbed second on lap seven, and took the
lead with an outside move on lap eight. Gust
dogged Wimmer during the final two laps, but
settled for second, ahead of Pittstown, N.J.
native Pat Brown (No. 199 Factory Yamaha, Golden
West Cycles/Yamaha).
With the victory, Wimmer took the lead in the
Riders’ Championship from Gust. Wimmer now holds
a two-point margin going into tomorrow’s season
finale, part of this weekend’s double
championship.
“It was pretty tight the last few laps,” said
Wimmer. “Doug is an awesome rider. I tried to
run a smart line, and protect my lead. The
conservative approach worked out today. This is
a tight championship, so every session tomorrow
is going to be important, but I’m glad to be
back in the points lead.”
Under threatening skies, Beckman (No. 292
Jack Link’s, Spy Optics, Fly Racing/Arctic Cat)
won the $500 ATVRiders.com Rock’n’Roll Award for
leaving the rock crawl first, and led every lap
of the QuadTerrain Challenge Pro Stock race.
Beckman fought off a late charge from Jesse West
(No. 888 Oil Boyz, Stud Boy/Arctic Cat) to nab
the victory, his first on the Tour. The win also
marked the first for rookie PowerSports ATV Tour
team Olah Racing. West was second, ahead of
Daryl Rath (No. 67 Rath Racing, Maxxis/Arctic
Cat).
Rath now leads William Yokley (No. 23 Suzuki)
by 14 in the riders’ standings.
“I got a great start and just stayed smooth
through the rocks,” said Beckman. “I wasn’t the
fastest rider out there, but consistency really
paid off. Late in the race, I got hung up in the
rocks and Jesse scared me there. I was lucky to
make it through.”
Suzuki continues its hold on the
Manufacturers’ Championship in SuperQuad Pro 450
with an six-point margin ahead of Honda. Can-Am
leads the manufacturers’ points in QuadTerrain
Pro Stock, just one point ahead of Arctic Cat.

The Englishtown race weekend continues
tomorrow with the 2006 season finale. Tomorrow’s
events, which get underway at 9 a.m. EDT,
include a full schedule of racing for the Pros,
as well as finals for the Amateur, Pro Am and
Youth classes.
