Rock Maple Racing Can-Am
Series Gears up for Round 3 in Templeton
HAMPSTEAD,
N.H. — As the foliage here in northern New
England puts on its annual display of brilliant
colors and overnight temperatures continue to
drop, action in the ATV racing industry is
heating up.
Round 3 on the 2006 Rock Maple Racing (RMR)
Can-Am Series schedule is set for this Sunday,
Sept. 24, at the beautiful Crow Hill Motor
Sports Park in Templeton, Massachusetts. Gates
open at 8 a.m. and racing action begins promptly
at 9 a.m. Tickets are $10 per person for adults,
while children age 5 and under will be admitted
free. Food and beverages will be available at
the track from the Templeton Lions Club.
Sunday's event is presented by Nault's Honda
Powerhouse of Manchester, New Hampshire.
The Crow Hill Motor Sports Park is located on
the West Road. For easy access, take Exit 19 off
Rte. 2 West and follow Rte. 202.
Local riders to watch this weekend include
John Norcross of Templeton, Peter Gallant of
Westminster and Roger Parker of Brimfield.
Norcross won the Elka Suspension Terrain 700
final in Templeton last month while Gallant
out-maneuvered Parker to claim the Can-Am
Terrain 500 class final. All three Utility
division riders will battle for victory in Round
3 this Sunday.
Other winners in Round 2 at Templeton
included Enfield, New Hampshire's Andrew Ruel,
who rode his Honda to victory in the PowerMadd
Production Lites final. Justin Cyr, of Ashford,
CT, claimed second, while RMR snocross veteran
Michaela Lemieux finished third.
Ryan Dupont was the only multiple class
winner at Templeton, winning both the New
England Racing Fuels 0-70cc and Elka Suspension
0-90cc Junior division finals. Dupont made the
haul to RMR’s Can-Am Series event from
Connecticut, and is a talented young racer.
Chris Kearney and Ethan Pearson filled out the
podium in the 0-70cc class, while Alex Parker
and local favorite Montana Jess of Westminster
claimed second and third in 0-90cc action.
Filling out the list of MX Division winners
at Templeton in Round 2 were Dominic Muschetti,
who out-gunned Ruel to capture the 0-90cc
Unlimited final, Garrett Hax, of Durham, CT, who
picked up a win in the 0-90cc Senior division,
Drew Blackstone (0-50cc Senior), and Derek
Fontaine (0-50cc Junior).
Teams in the RMR Can-Am Series compete in two
different divisions — MX and Utility. The MX
series is for 2-wheel drive race-oriented
machines, while the Utility division is for
entry-level riders on 4-wheel drive or
utility-based machines. RMR utilizes a separate
race course for 4x4 machines where they compete
in the QuadTerrain Challenge.
Tracks in the MX division are similar to
those built for motocross. Tracks for the
QuadTerrain series are one-quarter to one-half
mile in length. From 20-foot climbs to
wisely-placed obstacles, mud pits and more, each
rider and machine is put to the test. RMR's ATV
tracks also have bypass areas to make the course
suitable for all ages and ability levels.
Rock Maple Racing is the eastern affiliate of
the World Powersports Association (WPSA), the
national sanctioning body for ATV racing. RMR
will begin its 15th season of snocross
competition in the winter of 2006-07. To learn
