ATVA Natioanal MX Series

Morgantown, WV – The ATVPG, in cooperation with the ATVA, announces that effective immediately, all classes in the ITP/Moose ATVA National Motocross Championships Presented by Parts Unlimited will be scored using the AMA Pro Racing DNF rule.

The 2007 AMA Pro ATV Motocross Racing Rules, page 34, 3.16.i reads as follows: Any riders who do not complete the checkered flag lap will be scored in order of finish and laps completed.

Under the amateur scoring procedure, riders must 1) take the checkered flag and 2) make at least ½ the laps of the leader in order to get a finish position; failure to meet either requirement results in a DNF.

“This is one benefit of transponder scoring that we didn’t foresee”, explained Sam Gammon of the ATV Promoter Group. “We can track every rider who makes at least one lap, and give every rider credit for the laps he or she made. We’ve had requests for this type of scoring for years, but transponder scoring helped make this possible.”

Gammon went on to explain that finishes will be assigned based on position and number of laps first, not by the checkered flag. In other words, if Rider A makes three laps and takes the checkered flag, he finishes BEHIND Rider B who makes 5 laps but does not take the checkered flag. Under the previous amateur rule, Rider B would not have received a finish position at all.

All completed events will stand as posted; this change affects rounds 4 through 12, beginning this weekend at Echeconnee Motocross. The change will be reflected in the Series’ Supplemental Rules.

The ITP/Moose AMA Pro ATV National Championship presented by Parts Unlimited continues in this weekend, April 14-15, with The ATV Rebel National in Echeconnee Off-Road Park in Lizella, Georgia.
