WPSA ATV Competition Bulletin: SS Qualifying Procedures & SS Rules Clarification

TO: ALL POWERSPORTS TOUR SUPERSPORT CLASS PARTICIPANTS
FROM: TES SEWELL, ATV TOUR DIRECTOR
RE: SUPERSPORT QUALIFYING PROCEDURES

The following procedure will be used for qualifying in all 2007 WPSA PowerSports ATV Tour SuperSport Class races:

a. Riders earn points in each heat according to their finishing positions. These points are separate and apart from the Riders' and Manufacturers' Championship points and are only used in setting the field for the final.

b. Points awarded per heat are as follows: one (1) point for first, two (2) points for second, three (3) points for third, etc. The rider accumulating the fewest points after the heats advances to the final until the field is filled.

c. The following procedure will be followed for advancement to the final: The top-10 riders from the heats will move into the final. The final two qualifying positions will be awarded provisionally to riders in the top five in end-of-year Riders' Championship points, who failed to qualify, followed by the 11th and 12th qualifiers. If there are no provisional qualifiers, the final positions will be filled by the 11th through 12th place qualifiers from the heats. Qualifying will comprise two rounds. The number of heats in each qualifying round will depend on the number of entries.

d. In the event of a tie for finishing position in any on-track session, the tie will be broken on the basis of the following provisions, with preference given in the following order until the tie is broken: In classes using transponders; ties will be broken by the "fastest race" completed in qualifying for the respective class.

When transponders are not used, Ties will be broken with the second round counting the most and the first round counting the least, then "TIE BREAKERS" come into effect.

Tie breakers:
1. 2nd round
2. 1st round
3. Number of riders faced (total of all rounds)
4. Any other performance-based criteria determined by the Race Director to resolve the tie.
