BRP CLAIMS MULTIPLE GNCC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Can-Am Outlander ATVs Power Riders to Three
Class Championships
Valcourt, Quebec, November
30, 2007 – Once again the Can-AmTM
OutlanderTM ATV line-up proved its versatility
and performance during the course of the Can-Am
Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) season in
2007. Can-Am X-Team riders simply dominated the
4x4 classes this year – including a four-place
sweep of the points standings in the 4x4 Open
class.
"Amazing success is just about the best way
to describe it," said Bernard Guy, ATV marketing
director at BRP. "Every year we set out to win
championships and this year it all came
together. From the racers to the mechanics to
the team owners, everyone involved in the racing
program was committed to winning."
The final race near Crowfordsville, Indiana,
is always a crowd pleaser with race fans from
across the region showing up to cheer on
favourite racers. It is also aptly named "The
Ironman": during the 13-round GNCC series, it
takes an Ironman-like mentality to finish the
season, and the final race is never a cakewalk.
Warnert Racing / Can-Am X-Team racer Rick
Cecco won the 4x4 Open class after a year-long
battle with fellow Can-Am rider Bryan Buckhannon
to the final race of the season; Cecco won his
championship aboard an Outlander 800 H.O. 4x4.
Next year, Cecco will pilot a Can-Am RenegadeTM
800 in the U2 class.
"It feels great to be in a battle all season
long and come out with a championship," said
Cecco of the win. "My thanks to everyone on the
Warnert Racing crew and, of course, to BRP
Can-Am for producing such a great ATV. I can't
wait to race for the U2-class championship next
season."
Also in the 4x4 Open class, Warnert Racing's
Scott Kilby and Can-Am X-Team member Jacob Kirst
took third and fourth respectively. The class
was all Can-Am, all year, all the time. Twelve
of 13 4x4 Open class races in 2007 were won
aboard a Can-Am Outlander 800.
In the 4x4 Limited class, it was Warnert
Racing / Can-Am X-Team's Michael Swift who
brought home the class championship. Swift was
the run-away winner of the class winning 11 out
of 13 races aboard an Outlander 800. Team MPR's
Mike Penland battled hard all season long with a
couple of podium finishes and several top-five
finishes in the class.
Cliffton Beasley of the Warnert Racing /
Can-Am X-Team faced tough competition throughout
the 2007 GNCC season – from fellow Can-Am X-Team
rider Jeremy Dudding! Both riders battled aboard
Can-Am Outlander 500 ATVs however, it was
Beasley's wins in 10 out of 13 rounds that gave
him the championship. Both Beasley and Dudding
finished either first or second in nine out of
13 races in 2007.
With the 2007 season wrapped up and three
championships won, the Can-Am team is looking
forward to adding even more championships to the
trophy case next GNCC season with the addition
of the DS 450 ATV in the XC 1 Pro class. The
first GNCC race of 2008 will be on March 2, 2008
in Florida.
