Summary
We decided to stay close to home on this off
weekend from the GNCC Series, and race the last
round of the Mid-South Hare Scrambles Winter
Series in Gamaliel KY. On Saturday, myself
along with my teammate Mark Notman joined forces
with local National Guard Recruiter SFC Joe
Pettet for a day of autograph signing and fun.
We set up our display in the parking lot of the
Tompkinsville Walmart, and SFC Pettet and his
group of soldiers brought a rock wall climbing
simulator. We met a lot of cool people,
gave away posters and goodies, and had a great
time watching people play around on the rock
wall.
On Sunday, the Guardsmen brought the rock
wall to the race track, and it was a big hit at
the track for both kids and adults. I want
to thank the hard working men and women who
helped with the National Guard rock wall and
display this weekend, they were great to work
with. The Gamaliel track is awesome and
very technical due to extensive tornado damage
in Feb. I was able to grab the holeshot at
the start followed closely by my teammate Mark.
We were banging wheels and battling each other,
as well as bouncing off the trees and lapped
riders. The conditions were perfect, 75
degrees and sunny, which made for an enjoyable
day.
I was able to keep the lead for most of the
day until the last lap; I let a rider go by for
the lead thinking my sprocket was stripping.
I kept on going and realized I might be able to
finish without breaking down. I caught up
to the lead rider with about 1/8 of a mile to
go, and made the pass for the win. Mark
had some issues with lapped riders and stalling
his motor, but was able to bring it home in 8th.
It was a great weekend altogether, and I’m
looking forward to Loretta Lynn’s GNCC race this
coming weekend.
