AMA ATV MOTOCROSS SERIES HEADS TO THE OLD
DOMINION
READIES FOR ROUND FOUR OF NATIONAL RACING SERIES
DANVILLE, Va. (April 23,
2008) -- The ITP/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA
ATV Motocross National Championship Series
Presented by Parts Unlimited heads north this
weekend for the TriangleCycle.com ATV National.
The event is Round 4 of the National Pro Racing
tour and is being held at Birch Creek
Motorsports here. The Nation's premier national
ATV racing series features America's best pro
riders, as well as Amateur, Pro-Am and Junior
racers.
The ATV Motocross Series features the top
professional and amateur ATV riders in the
country, competing at preeminent motocross
facilities across the nation. ATV motocross
racing is run on a closed course, which
comprises technical "whoops" sections, as well
as big-air jumps, tight turns and all-out
straightaways. The machines are race-bred 450cc
machines from top manufacturers such as Can-Am,
Suzuki, Yamaha, Polaris, Honda, KTM, and
Kawasaki. Riders easily make six-figure incomes
from the large purses, and contingency bonuses
posted by manufacturers, as well as other Series
sponsors and suppliers.
The riders will be vying for the most coveted
honor in ATV racing: The AMA National
Championship and the AMA No. 1 Number Plate.
The event will feature the fourth round of
Pro competition, as well as third event for the
amateur classes.
The race will be telecast on Versus Network on
Aug. 25 at 3:30 p.m.
The big question this weekend is certain to
be: "Who can stop Team Suzuki?" Third-year Pro
Dustin Wimmer and veteran Doug Gust have set the
season ablaze on their yellow and blue machines
this season, with Wimmer winning the first two
races and Gust netting the victory at the most
recent race in Kentucky. The duo is joined by
Chad Wienen, who has showcased speed and poise
this season.
That Suzuki streak may just come to end at
the hands of Josh Creamer and his Team Monster
Energy Drink Kawasaki. Creamer has come out of
the box quickly this season, finishing on the
podium in the season opener and finishing fourth
at the most recent event two weeks ago. Creamer
is joined on the Kawasaki team by Russell
Shumaker and Keith Little.
Can-Am recently showed its development
program is beginning to pay off for its all-new
DS450 quad Scoring the first-ever motocross moto
victory for the team was John Natalie, who
finished sixth overall in Kentucky. The "Iron
Man" is always competitive, and will certainly
be a force to be reckoned with here. Natalie's
teammates at Team Can-Am are: Jeremy Lawson,
Richard Pelchat, Sage Baker, Greg Gee, and Cody
Miller.
It's never wise to discount experience and
talent, and Joe Byrd possesses both. The
privateer Honda rider won the Pro title for the
past two years and won an incredible six of 12
events last year. Byrd is the defending winner
here, and has a podium to his credit in three
starts this season.
Team Yamaha showed a glimmer of greatness at
the last event as French Canadian rider Jasmin
Plante placed second in Kentucky, handing Yamaha
its best finish this season. Plante is joined in
Yamaha Blue by New Jersey rider Pat Brown.
Other pros expected to compete this weekend
include: Rocco Arno, Jr., John Ragon. Josh
Upperman, Thomas Hager, Nate Morello, Hunter
Miller and Michael James Brown.
