Pomeroy, Stowell Split Pro Finals at Twister
Valley for Can-Am RMR Series
Presented by the New England Dodge Dealers
FORT PLAIN, NY (May 19,
2008) - Veteran ATV racers Matt Pomeroy
and James Stowell recorded final round wins in
the pro division Sunday afternoon, as Rock Maple
Racing (RMR) completed Round 2 on the 11-race
2008 Can-Am Series schedule at the Twister
Valley Sports Complex.
Pomeroy, of Westfield, Mass., held off
Stowell and Brent Miller to claim the Pro
Unlimited final, while Stowell, of Canajoharie,
NY, out-dueled Pomeroy and Miller to capture the
Pro Am class win. Returning RMR riders Luke
Marois and Brian Daigle completed the top five
in Pro Unlimited, while Marois and Max Weaver
filled out the top five in Pro Am.
In other action on the big machines Sunday,
Steffan Daeger made the long haul from
Hampstead, NH, worthwhile with a victory in A
Unlimited. Nathan Lashway rode his Yamaha to
victory in a hotly-contested B Unlimited final,
holding off the hot Polaris machines of Brett
Bender and Bruce Gaspardi for top honors.
Snocross fans know the names Bender and Gaspardi
quite well - Bender is a top contender on the
national snocross scene while Gaspardi has raced
with Rock Maple since he was old enough to sit
on a sled.
Bender bounced back to win the final for
18-24 year olds, with Glynn Desilva and Eric
White filling out the podium. Bender is one of
the most exciting athletes to watch on the
Semi-Pro level in national snocross competition.
The son of legendary Yamaha racer Tim Bender,
Brett has been around sleds since he was in
diapers. His future in snocross racing is very
bright.
George Layton put in another solid
performance in the Plus 35 final. The veteran
from Averill Park, NY, out-gunned David Porter
of Boonville for top honors on his well-prepared
Honda. Porter found redemption as he held off
Joe Mason to win the Open Amateur final.
Dale Robinson powered his Honda to victory in
a talent-filled final for Production Lites. The
Sharon, VT, rider out-gunned fellow Vermont
racers Curtis Gillilan and Dylan Whitmore for
top honors.
Other ATV winners Sunday include Craig
Synenki (Plus 25); Jordan Storrs (0-90cc
Limited); Derrik Mann (0-90cc Unlimited); Ethan
Lehmer (0-70cc Unlimited); Richard Murtaugh
(0-50cc Senior, 0-50cc Junior & 0-70cc
Modified); and Alex Parker (0-90cc Modified).
In Quad-Terrain Challenge action Sunday,
Jamie Bougher's big trip from Westwood, NJ, paid
dividends with a victory in the Open final. The
contingent from Bristol, VT, filled out the
podium, as Alex Layn and Adam Fay finished
second and third respectively. Paul Calderwood
and Liz Storti completed the top five in an
exciting outing for the 4x4 gang.
In the new Pit-X Series for Pit Bikes,
veteran snocross racer Tyler Sedlmeier claimed
the Open Amateur final over JR Sierra. Sedlmeier,
of Orchard Park, NY, will race just about
anything with two skis or two wheels.
