Brilliant Riding Puts Holmes In Third

Now third place in the 2008 ACU British
MMX Quad Championship and Leading the
IOPD British Championship Pro Class,
Paul Holmes is having a fantastic
season! |
Paul Holmes moved into third overall after a
fantastic performance at round four of the 2008
ACU British MMX Quad Championship held at
Hawkstone Park this weekend.
It started well in qualifying for British
number one John Mitchell. Having just returned
from a very painful knee injury that has ruled
him out for the last three weeks, John put down
the fastest lap on his ATV World Yamaha YFZ450
Laeger’s. Unfortunately by the start of race
one, John was struggling, not only with his knee
but also with a stomach virus which left him
feeling physically drained and could only make
10 th place. Paul Holmes went well into the
first corner, taking sixth and pressing hard. He
went on to take three places and finished in
third.
By race two, John was not feeling well and
made the call to ride. He took a steady pace but
was unable to challenge as a combination of
fatigue and lack of race fitness took hold. John
finished in 11 th. Paul Holmes has got a better
start and was fourth round the first corner. He
lost the place midway through the race but was
able to make it up with two laps to go finishing
fourth and third overall on the day.
After his podium celebrations Paul said: “I’m
really pleased to be in third place. I’ve got
myself ahead of the best riders out there and
with four remaining rounds I hope to go even
better. My ATV World Yamaha YFZ450 has been
superb and it gives me the confidence to just
keeping pushing.”
John is disappointed with his current
mid-season position but is more upbeat on the
remaining rounds. “It’s just been an off day. My
fitness still isn’t 100% despite all my training
after my knee injury. I had felt better on my
quad in practice over the week but when it came
to Sunday, I felt drained. Fatigue played its
part and I’m not going to let that happen again!
From here I’ll go back home, continue to work on
my fitness and improve for the remaining
four rounds.”
The first of those remaining four rounds is
at Deanmoor check in Cumbria on the 13 th July.
Hope to see you there!
Meanwhile Paul will head off to round six of
the IOPD British Championship Pro Class at
Armthorpe on the 6 th July. Paul is currently
leading the championship having won every round
so far! Thanks again for all the support
