Beaverdale Hillclimb

Doug Buck Bests 2008 AMA Vet Champ Matt Novak!

Sunny skies greeted the ATV climbers at the Beaverdale Hillclimb located in beautiful Beaverdale, PA. The hill was dry and somewhat dusty as the ATV’s tore up the hill. With the hill starting to wear in, times were starting to get faster.

Fresh off his 2008 AMA National Vet Class Championship Matt Novak looked to take home some more wins and great times.  Doug Buck had different plans as he beat Novak in both the 266cc and Up (2-Stroke) class and also the ATV Open class. Buck ran a 7.553 as his best in the first class and 7.221 at his best in the second. Novak ran 7.587 in the first and 7.237 in the second. Novak talked about the conditions on the hill, which includes a new third breaker for the 2008 year. “Well the hill was dry and very hard packed, but the ATVs were hooking up surprisingly well. With the breakers starting to fill in, a lot of the guys were turning their fastest times of the year.” At the start of the day, the hill looked so dry that traction might have been an issue with the rocks. Novak actually came out too hot on his first run with his Yamaha and had to make some adjustments between runs. But at the end of the day, the Yamaha was his best time. “I turned my best time of the day on my RC51 Raptor. With brand new skins on the back it hooked up a little too well for my first run. I was running too tall of a gear to spin the tires. I geared down for the second round. I came out of the hole fast, jumped both breakers, but hit sideways on a ledge on the third section which slowed me down. I lost by .016 seconds.”

The 91cc-450cc (4-Stroke) class provided the best race of the day as Chris Shoff edged out Scott Douglas 7.740 to 7.741. Robby Streams was the fastest ATV up the hill with a 7.191 time.
