John Mitchell
Finishes Second at Weston Super Mare Beach Race
2008
ATV World Yamaha rider John
Mitchell took a thrilling second place at this
year’s Weston Super Mare Beachrace which was
held on Saturday 11th October.
John had
been training for the event on a solo bike,
racing at the Orkney Beach race two weeks
earlier where he finished in third place.
Feeling confident in the sand, John was using a
specially prepared ATV World Yamaha YFZ450 with
a full Elka suspension setup and a standard
Yamaha engine.
As the gates dropped to
mark the start of the race, John was caught in
the thick of the action. “500 riders going into
the first corner was a little crazy. There were
so many of us and I knew I had to move though
quickly if I had any chance of a good finish.”
John was superb in the rough as the ATV
World Yamaha YFZ450 was setup perfectly to
handle the sand and the big dunes. By the
half way point, John was in 11th place as he
made a pit stop to take on fuel, a set of new
SPY goggles and his own race fuel…High 5 energy
drink!
Fuelled for the finish, John began
to work his way through the course, taking
places, making passes and showing off his
fitness as others began to struggle over the
three hour race. On the penultimate lap John
passed Carl Bunce to take second place and
finished the thrilling Weston Super Mare
Beachrace 2008. It was the French man Jeremie
Warnia who took the chequered flag, followed in
second place by John Mitchell and Carl Bunce in
third.
John said after the race; “That’s
my best result at Weston Super Mare Beachrace
and I’m really pleased with second place. I have
been training in the sand for this race and I’m
now confident I can achieve some great results
in the future. I had a good setup with the
YFZ450 and Martin and Nick from ATV World have
prepared a fantastic quad.“
Thanks again to
all of the Team ATV World Yamaha sponsors whose
products and support have helped with the
success of the 2008 season.
