Brandon Smith won the last Quadcross
and looking great in Moto 2 trying to catch the
leader Nelson.

Moto one Justin Noss was out front
with a nice early lead. Will he be able to hold
off the blood thirsty pack?

Anthony Martin of Triumph
Motorsports.com was on hand with family
in tow. The Martins were cruising the
pits in style in their totally tricked
out Yamaha Rhino.

Raptor 250s were out in force. Yamaha
even sponsored a media event and had a
hand full of Raptors on hand for the
editors to race. |
Well, as the season starts to wind down,
there is still an awesome points battle going on
in almost all the classes. In the pro class,
Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson has a pretty solid lead.
The real battle is for second, where there are
three riders in a close point’s race with as
little as a 4-point spread between them. One
slip up on any one of these top four to not
finish can mean a big point’s loss. The Can-Am/Motorworks
has two riders in the running, and one rider who
have won two races already this season. Both
Josh Frederick and Brandon Smith have been on
fire lately and really getting those Can-Ams to
perform. As the other top two are aboard
Yamahas, they are points leader Nelson and the
Yamaha Privateer Justin Noss. Nelson and Noss
have also been racing the 250cc modified class
on their tricked-out Raptor 250s. Well, let’s
get on to the racing.
Pro Class Moto One
Off the line and out of the first turn Justin
Noss emerged with Dustin Terry in tow. The
Yamaha rider was off to an early lead and was
looking strong. Smith was in fourth, with Nelson
in third and Frederick in the back of the pack.
By the second lap Terry was overtaken by Smith
and was knocking on Noss’s door, with Nelson not
too far behind. With Smith hot on Noss’s tail it
wouldn’t be long until he would pass. At this
point Frederick had made his way up to fifth as
his teammate took home the win. Frederick was
followed shortly by Noss, with Nelson in third
place.
Pro Class Moto Two
Out of the gate Dustin Nelson was off to a
good lead. By the second lap he was building on
this lead and was starting to look really
strong. The Can-Am Team got off to a bit of a
slow start. Frederick (#2 in the point’s race)
had a bit of bad luck in moto 1 and now in moto
2 has gotten another bad start. Brandon Smith
got a fifth-place start and started to work his
way to the front. As for Justin Noss, he was off
to a decent start, not as good as moto 1, but
still up front. By lap four Smith had made quick
work of the pack in front of him and was working
on catching Nelson. Nelson was already pulling
away from the pack. By the last lap Smith was on
the heels of Nelson and looking to pass. Smith
has looked good all season, but now is really
kicking it into gear! About half way through the
last lap Smith goes wide in a turn and goes for
the pass. Doing this almost proved to be a
disaster. A,s he turned, Nelson drifted
out as well to block the position, and they
rubbed tires that made Nelson lose control then
wreck. They had both pulled such a lead that
Smith had plenty of time to remount his machine
and finish the moto in second place. Brandon
stayed on all four with and with a 1-1 finish
takes home the overall and a second in a row
overall win. Nelson finished 3-2 for a
second overall. Finishing right behind Nelson
was Justin Noss for 2-3 finish and Noss took
home the final podium position. As for Frederick
he finished ninth and had 7-9 showing to get a
sixth overall.
With this race in the bag, now the point’s
race really heated up. Frederick finishing so
far back would bring the other riders within
striking distance. As for Nelson’s lead, it
would take some really bad luck for him not to
pull it off at this point. As long as he makes
the rest of the races and finishes in the top
three, he should be the champ. So check back
with us as this race continues to heat up, and
we will bring you all of the Quadcross action.
