The Mountain Ridge GNCC UTV Race Report
Somerset,
Pennsylvania, May 16, 2009
William Yokley finished 1st Overall and 1st in
the Open Modified Class today. There
were 51 total entries with 22 Open Modified
machines. The guest passenger today was
long time friend Mark Hix.
Summary
Today was Round 2 of the GNCC UTV series and I
was really looking forward to racing here in
Somerset. The Racer Production guys laid
out a real nice 5 mile track with some new
trails that looked like fun. My passenger
was Mark Hix; he had wanted to take a ride with
me and today was his day. We had to draw
for starting position, and ended up on the 5th
row. The weather had been great all day,
but a pretty severe rain storm came through
while we were on the start line. It poured
on us while we waited for the start, and
continued to pour for the entire race. Our
goggles were useless very soon after the start,
so we had to toss them and run with no eye
protection.
We started passing a few machines and finally
got to the front. Other than the goggles,
we did not have too many problems. We did
mow down a few small trees and bounce off some
other UTVs; our Polaris RZR ran flawlessly and
our Kenda tires worked great. We ended up
running 5 laps and crossed the finish line with
bloodshot eyes and both side panels ripped off.
Mark had a blast!
These RZRs are so much fun to race, and I’m
looking forward to the next round! We are
fortunate to be leading in the UTV points
halfway through the season.
