Round #3 Butterfield Track - Hayward, WI

Round #3 for the Badger State Quad
Championship series would be the first North vs
South race between the Badger State Quad
Championship series and the IRACEATV series. The
two North vs South races (with the 2nd round
being held in Tigerton, WI on July 18th & 19th)
were put together to bring more ATV racers
together at each event from competing series.
Feedback from both racers and promoters has been
very positive so far and appears to be a step in
the direction the Wisconsin ATV MX club hopes to
take quad racing in Wisconsin.
There was a little work involved with
matching up classes for both series but in the
end there was some good competition. The Pro-Am
Production entries were down as most riders
opted to use this round as there throw out race
for the year. However, Steve Runkel and Eric
Wenzel both showed up to put on a show and stake
claim to which series had the top riders and
also to hopefully reclaim some lost points from
the previous rounds due to mechanical issues.
Steve Runkel would start this round out the same
as the previous with securing moto 1 wins in the
Pro-Am and Production A class. Ryan Mientke

Eric Wenzel and CHad Mondeau

Production C

#698
and Mark Olejainchak #131 would secure 2nd and
3rd in the Production A class. Moto 2 would see
a slight change in the order though. With the
track being mostly sand it would become
one-lined through the day and make passing very
challenging. Eric Wenzel would secure the early
lead in moto 2 of Production A and keep that
lead. Steve Runkel would be able to salvage a
2nd place and take the overall for the day in
Production A followed by Eric Wenzel and Ryan
Mientke. Bad luck would strike again for Steve
Runkel in the Pro-Am class with mechanical
issues again giving the overall to Eric Wenzel
on the day. Steve commented to me several days
latter “That is the problem with going fast with
out a lot of money and the worst of luck”. With
the throw out race in place, it creates a 3 way
tie for 1st in the Pro-Am Production class for
Steve Runkel, Eric Wenzel and Cody Janssen.
The Mini classes were exciting as well Sam
Rowe and Gunner Tebon making the trip north as
well. Sam Rowe would secure 1st place finishes
in both the Mini Mod and Junior class with
Gunner Tebon securing 2nd in the same classes.
The Petit kids would secure the other two mini
classes with Jerzy Petit winning the Mini Box
Stock and Dawson Petit winning Mini Super Stock.
Jennifer Brown was able to put together two
good motos and come out on top in the Women’s
class. Darrick Acker secured the win in
Production B and Justin Gorges secured the win
in Production C. Full results are available at

The next round of action is going to be back
at Gravity Park USA in Chilton, WI on June 13th.
This round is going to feature ST, TT, and MX
racing action. Racing is going to start at 8am
on the ST and then move into TT racing with the
day wrapping up under the lights on the MX
track. There is an added bonus for the weekend
with the payouts tripled across the board for
the Pro-Am Production class and Production A
class on the MX track. That means a possible
$600+ to first in the Pro-Am class and basically
everyone except for last place will receive
their entry fee back. Visit
www.WATVMX.com for more information and
upcoming races.
