ATV Team Christy wins at B.I.T.D.
Team Christy continued their
perfect desert racing season with a win at the
second round of the Best In The Desert series.
The Bluewater Gran Prix is an 8 lap race around
an 11 mile loop in the desert terrain
surrounding the Bluewater Casino and Resort in
Parker AZ. Temperatures hit 105 degrees at race
time, making rider endurance and conditioning
vital to a good result. Making things even more
challenging, the Christy squad was missing key
team members Steve Abrego and Beau Nilsson.
Steve had been drafted to another team as a last
minute replacement for an injured rider and Beau
stayed home with his newborn son.
Team riders Craig Christy and Andy Lagzdins
bested the heat and the competition to emerge
victorious on their Duncan/Elka Honda TRX450R.
Lagzdins began the race, which started in the
parking lot of the casino, and worked his way
into the lead by the second lap.
Most teams switched riders every two laps to
keep from wearing down too much in the
blistering heat. Lagzdins used his many years of
GNCC and OMA cross country racing experience to
reel in the competition and open up a sizable
lead on the shortest and tightest track of the
BITD series.
Craig Christy took over the reigns and kept
the lead through the rest of the event, using
his knowledge of the race course and the
superior handling of the ITP Holeshot-equipped
machine. Craig brought the quad home to the
finish, securing the race win and the series
points lead in the Quad Expert division.
The course contained many unique obstacles
including a vacant building that riders had to
navigate though . Also included in the track
layout was a challenging water crossing and, of
course, miles of sand whoops. Riders and
spectators were treated to the cool mountain
waters of the Colorado River, which flowed
alongside of the pit straightaway, almost
everyone at the event cooled themselves in the
water after the race.
This victory could not have been achieved
without the fantastic Duncan Racing / Honda
TRX-450R equipped with Elka Shocks, ITP tires,
PWR radiator, Fatboy 4 exhaust system and Spider
Grips. Additional support from Rockstar Energy
Drink, Cycle Gear and Rgear Worldwide kept the
team supplied, hydrated and fed!
The next race on the Christy schedule is the
SCORE / TECATE Baja 500 happening on the 6th of
June 2009
