Washington, Georgia, March 17, 2012 - National Guard / Polaris / Coastal / Yoshimura / DragonFire / Yokley Racing Team driver William Yokley finished 1st Overall and 1st in the Side by Side Open Modified Class.   National Guard / Polaris / Coastal / Yoshimura / Yokley Racing Team driver Scott Kiger finished 3rd Overall and 3rd in the same class.  There were 46 total entries with 24 Open Modified teams in the race today.  William’s guest passenger was his wife Tina, and Scott’s passenger was Joe Waligora.

Summary – Side by Side

The first Side by Side GNCC race of the season is a good way to see if all the off-season testing and preparation will produce a good finish.  The team has been busy preparing their new Ranger RZR XP 900’s with the goal of defending the Open Modified National Championship.  Most of the sponsors remained the same with the addition of Yoshimura, Keizer and Big Country Powersports.  Yoshimura supplied the motor kit that can be purchased by anyone through Yoshimura.

The Washington track is hard packed red Georgia clay featuring ruts, square-edged bumps and mudholes.  A rain shower about 1 hour before the start made the conditions ideal for racing.  The sun came out and the temp was in the 80’s.  Since the Yokley National Guard Polaris Side by Sides finished 1st and 3rd in season points last year, they started on the front row.  When the flag dropped, Yokley led into the first turn with Kiger right behind.  They ran first and second for a while until Kiger got hung up in some trees, forcing him to back up  and lose some positions.

Yokley lead the entire 1 hour race, and after some close competition early on, was able to finish more than 2 minutes ahead of Team Motoworks in 2nd place.  Scott Kiger finished a close 3rd, putting both National Guard Polaris machines on the podium.  The machines ran flawlessly and strong the entire race.  The team will get ready for the next GNCC Side by Side event at the Big Buck in Union, SC on April 14.
