2006 Predator Troy Lee Designs
and Predator 500
Riders Engage Handling, Suspension and Power
to Lead on Track and Trail
Polaris
Predators have won a combined seven industry awards
in the last three years and 2006 aims to continue
that streak. The Predator 500 Troy Lee Designs Edition
and the Predator 500 hit the market last year with
enhanced performance features for track and trail.
Both of these Predator models return this year,
with all the enhancements riders loved in 2005.
Improved suspension, ergonomics and acceleration
combine to deliver top performance and clear advantages,
from start to finish.
On both Predator models, the ignition is calibrated
to allow the powerful 500 engine to rev higher,
enabling riders to get quicker acceleration from
the start. Because the Predator models are geared
for maximum torque delivery, riders produce an additional
burst of acceleration from the close-ratio gearing.
That roll-on acceleration is available on demand,
without downshifting.
Improved suspension, ergonomics and specialized
equipment yield a superior performance throughout
the ride. The Predator 500 originally entered the
market in 2003 as the toughest machine on the trail.
Its reputation was quickly established when riders
demonstrated the best-in-class handling, suspension
and power of these machines.
That world-class performance extends to the track,
where riders take full advantage of the proven Predator
500 engine power, responsive steering, anti-dive
and anti-squat suspension. No other sport ATV offers
riders such an impressive ride and great experience
on the trails and on the track.
The Predator 500 models track true and consistent
in every trail or track situation, including turns,
bumps and stutter sections. The Polaris Rider Optimized
(PRO) steering system allows the rider to stay on
the throttle and confidently stay in control, rather
than having to ease up. This system uses a Polaris-exclusive
linkage to position the steering arm pivot points,
virtually eliminating bump steering and delivering
incredibly responsive steering.
As with the PRO steering, the front suspension
allows the Predator 500 rider to stay on the gas
in corners instead of backing off to let the quad
resettle and hook up again. To deliver this performance,
the Anti-Dive Front Suspension minimizes dive and
inside rear wheel lift when the rider is braking
in corners. An Anti-Squat Rear Suspension reduces
front wheel lift during acceleration, allowing the
power to fully propel the quad rather than into
unintentional wheel lift.
This suspension system is sophisticated enough
to cater to the sport quad rider. Twin clickers
on the rear shock enable the rider to customize
the ride and performance of the machine by choosing
from 17 compression adjustments and 25 rebound positions.
The dual A-arm front suspension has rebuildable
and revalvable FOX gas shocks and 10 inches of travel.
The rear suspension also has a rebuildable and revalvable
FOX gas shock and 11 inches of travel.
All of these features mean riders get the full
benefit of the outstanding acceleration and top-end
power of the Polaris 500 liquid-cooled, 4-stroke
engine. This engine has dual-overhead cams, 4 valves
and a 42mm carburetor. It has a pulse fuel pump
that provides consistent fuel flow in all conditions.
The increased rev limiter allows the engine to
rev higher before the rider needs to shift the 5-speed
transmission. Riders get a better feel for the machine’s
power and can accelerate faster when they rev higher
before changing gears. A premium ratchet type shift
mechanism introduced just last year reduces shift
effort, improves shift feel, makes it easier to
find neutral and increases durability. These sport
quads also have the added convenience of reverse
to back off trailers and away from obstacles.
A 2005 seat redesign, relocation of the handlebars
and extension of the steering post gives the Predator
500 a more comfortable and natural-feeling riding
position.
The seat has more foam padding and it places
riders farther back with the ability to easily slide
ahead and ride aggressively. The taller steering
post positions the handlebars closer to the rider
to provide a more relaxed and in-control riding
position for long, fun days on the trails.
The Predator 500 has an LED taillight that provides
higher visibility and more durability than a standard
taillight.
Predator
500 Troy Lee Designs Edition
The Predator 500 Troy Lee Designs edition is
a true high-performance machine with factory-installed
premium performance equipment, such as Maxxis radial
tires, Douglas® rims and FOX® shocks. The combination
of the premium shocks, tires and the Predator’s
close-ratio gears give the Troy Lee Designs edition
a distinctly different and more performance-oriented
ride. Here’s how:
- Front FOX Podium X shocks have remote reservoirs
and compression adjustability so riders can
really dial in the Predator’s ride and handling.
- Premium Maxxis Razr radial tires are standard
all-round on the Troy Lee edition. These radials
soak up bumps yet deliver aggressive traction
with the extreme lug pattern.
Predator 500
The Predator 500 also has premium features,
including:
- stainless steel braided brake lines,
- a chromoly axle with limited lifetime guarantee,
- Maxxis Razr PR tires and
- Douglas aluminum rims with rolled-edge construction
for impressive strength and durability.
