Sportsman 6x6. It is uniquely equipped to take riders
and large loads of gear to off-road destinations
a four-wheel vehicle cannot reach.
This mobility and versatility makes the Sportsman
6x6 indispensable to its owners. Among the Sportsman
6x6 owners are sports and recreation, farm, utility
and adventure groups that need to haul large loads
of gear to hard-to-reach, treacherous locations.

Riders find that the exclusive Polaris On-Demand
All-Wheel Drive gives the Sportsman 6x6 true six-wheel
drive. The AWD system automatically monitors the
traction of the four rear wheels. When it senses
the rear wheels losing traction, it engages the
front wheels with full torque, giving the vehicle
true six-wheel drive. It reverts back to 4WD automatically,
with the four rearmost wheels all driving.
To get maximum traction from all six wheels,
Polaris created an innovative design in which the
Sportsman 6x6 center and rear axle suspension each
have unique and independent suspensions. The center
pair of wheels has a progressive rate swing arm
with 6.0 inches of travel while the two rearmost
wheels have a swing arm with a scissor stabilizer
and 7.5 inches of travel.
This design provides the four rearmost wheels
with exceptional range. That range enables the wheels
to retain traction where other utility vehicles
would get hung up. The MacPherson strut front suspension
provides smooth handling with 6.7 inches of travel.
The Sportsman 6x6 has 5.5 inches of ground clearance.
A liquid-cooled Polaris 500 4-stroke single-cylinder
engine powers the Sportsman 6x6. A Polaris Variable
Transmission (PVT) delivers top performance from
the 500 power plant. The PVT continually senses
engine speed and vehicle torque load and provides
the proper amount of power to the four drive wheels.
This is the industry’s best selling automatic transmission
and it has a durable belt backed by a Polaris lifetime
limited warranty.
To carry gear, the Sportsman 6x6 has a super-tough
composite front rack and durable, molded rear cargo
box. This box has a rear gate that opens wide and
a gas-assisted mechanism that makes it easy to raise
the box and dump loads. Cargo and towing capacities
are designed to suit the heavy loads. The Sportsman
6X6 delivers:
- 75 lbs. of front rack capacity;
- 800 lbs. of cargo box capacity;
- 1,500 lbs. of towing capacity;
- single-lever, all-wheel disc brakes with
a hydraulic auxiliary rear-wheel foot brake.
Sportsman 6x6 instrumentation includes:
- a speedometer/odometer with trip meter and
hour meter;
- high-beam indicator;
- gear indicator for Reverse, Hi, Lo and Neutral;
- high-temperature and low-battery warning
lights.
The Sportsman 6x6 is available in Sportsman Green
for 2006.
