QuadSport Z400 Angle ShotIntroducing the all new 2003 Suzuki QuadSport Z400. The Z400 is a totally new machine with an advanced high performance powerplant, state of the art chassis, long-travel suspension and five-speed transmission all combined in a powerful, nimble, and lightweight package.

Powering the 2003 QuadSport Z400 is a high performance 398cc 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC single-cylinder powerplant with four valves actuated by cam lobes riding directly on bucket tappets. The cylinderhead features a narrow 28 degree included valve angle for a compact, efficient combustion chamber with a 11.3:1 compression ratio. Fuel is supplied by a 36 mm Mikuni carburetor feeding 36 mm intake valves, with exhaust leaving through 29 mm exhaust valves. A dry sump lubrication system helps to create a more compact engine package.

QuadSport Z400 Side ShotThe aluminum-alloy cylinder is plated with Suzuki's own race-proven nickel phosphorus-silicon-carbide coating, known as SCEM (Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material), for reduced weight and improved heat transfer, allowing for tighter more efficient piston-to-cylinder clearance. Additionally the piston is forged aluminum-alloy for even more weight savings. A counter balancer shaft reduces vibration, while an automatic cam chain tensioner and an electronic CDI ignition simplify maintenance duties.

A manual five-speed transmission, with reverse gear transmits power to the rear wheels through an O-ring-sealed roller chain. A handy knob on the front left fender releases the reverse interlock to select the reverse gear. Suzuki's own start-in-gear system allows the engine to be started in any gear with the left brake lever applied.

QuadSport Z400 Rear ShotThe QuadSport Z400 chassis features a lightweight, high-tensile steel alloy tube frame and subframe, along with an independent double-wishbone front suspension with preload adjustable coil over shocks provid-ing 210 mm (8.3 inches) of wheel travel. Out back an aluminum alloy swingarm-type rear suspension uti-lizes a single fully adjustable piggyback reservoir shock with 231 mm (9.1 inches) of wheel travel. A tube-steel front bumper and high impact skid plate are standard equipment as well as durable, serrated steel footpegs for maximum grip. Wheelbase measures 1245 mm (49 inches) with a full 262 mm (10.3 inches) of ground clearance, with rolling stock consisting of aluminum alloy wheels at all four corners combined with Dunlop radial tires for maximum traction and performance.

QuadSport Z400 Front ShotOne look is all it takes to appreciate the QuadSport Z400's aggressive sport styling. The Z400 features a sharply angled nose with stacked dual headlights, twin air intakes and high-mounted deeply-flared front and rear fenders creating the most unique and aggressive Suzuki ATV ever built. The T-shaped seat is narrow at the front and flares out over the rear fenders allowing the rider to comfortably shift his or her weight back and forth and side to side. Seat height is set at 810 mm (31.2 inches) and smoothly transitions between the seat, bodywork and lightweight 10 liter (2.65 gallon) fuel tank. A multi-reflector taillight mounted at the rear includes a running light as well as a brake light and completes the aggressive look of the QuadSport Z400.

  • All new aggressively-styled mid-size sport ATV featuring a dependable 4-stroke engine and lightweight chassis design with adjustable long-travel suspension.

Engine Features

  • Compact & lightweight 398cc 4-stroke, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with counter-balancer based on the proven DR-Z400E design - tuned for tractable power over a wide rpm range.
  • Cylinder head features large 36mm intake and 29mm exhaust valves, plus a narrow 28º included valve angle creating a more compact combustion chamber, high compression ratio and a straight intake tract for improved power. Cams are direct acting-type with shim-under-bucket valve adjustment.
  • Forged aluminum alloy piston and SCEM-plated aluminum cylinder are lightweight and durable SCEM plating reduces cylinder weight (no iron sleeve) and improves cooling efficiency.
  • Large Mikuni BSR 36mm carburetor provides quick throttle response and fuel efficiency.p Liquid-cooling system with high capacity radiator and thermostatically-controlled cooling fan provides consistent engine operating temperature.
  • Dry-sump lubrication system allows a compact crankcase and minimal engine height for optimum engine placement - oil tank is frame-mounted in front of the exhaust head pipes.
  • Five-speed transmission with cable-operated clutch includes an easy-to-use reverse gear system - just turn the fender-mounted knob and shift from neutral to reverse using the gear shift lever.
  • Convenient electric start system includes Start-In-Gear feature - electric start system and CDI ignition are powered by compact maintenance-free battery.
