New Features
Introducing the 2008 KingQuad 400 series of
ATVs, the continuing expansion of the Suzuki
KingQuad ATV line. The new KingQuad 400 ATVs
replace the award-winning Eiger ATVs, a
significant group of Suzuki quads that earned
critical praise from ATV media year after year.
Improving these ATVs for the 2008 model year is
a challenge for which Suzuki was certainly well
prepared. The KingQuad 450 ATVs had
established the brand as a reliable and strong
sport-utility series popular among ATV owners
worldwide. Plus, the original Eiger ATVs had
been recognized in the ATV media as
best-in-class ATVs, delivering a complete
package of features, performance and
affordability.
The new KingQuad 400s deliver impressive new
styling along with better comfort and
convenience features, plus the class-leading
performance that has kept these ATVs at the top
of the category for years.
For 2008, the KingQuad 400s are easily
recognizable as new ATVs and as Suzuki KingQuad
family members with exciting new bodywork.
Sharply angled, high-clearance fenders, plus the
distinctive KingQuad headlights and grille make
this easy to recognize as a Suzuki. Further
enhancing the look and strengthening the stance
is a new front bumper with large-diameter steel
tubing. The new bodywork reduces by about four
inches the overall length of the KingQuad 400
ATVs, making the machines easier to transport in
pickup truck beds and on trailers. In addition
ground clearance has been increased from 9.3
inches to 9.8 inches.
This styling update adds even more functional
changes, as well, improving the comfort and
convenience of the newest KingQuad ATVs. A
T-shaped seat – another Suzuki signature feature
– is added to the KingQuad 400s, improving
comfort for all styles of riding. Shift control
is improved as well, with a new gate-type shift
lever – the similar to that on larger KingQuads.
Located on the left side of the fuel tank, this
utility-friendly shift lever allows simple and
precise shifting of the automatic transmission
from reverse through neutral, high and low
ranges.
A new fuel tank – up from15 liters (4.0 gallons)
to16 liters (4.2 gallons)– increases the riding
range of this KingQuad. The bodywork side covers
surrounding the fuel tank have a new shape that
reduces the width there, improving rider
comfort. Storage capacity and access is
improved, too, with a four-liter storage box now
located and protected under the seat.
The KingQuad 400s also get new front brake
calipers with enlarged piston diameter – up from
32mm to 34mm. Brake pad surface area is enlarged
as well to increase braking performance and
durability.
Newly designed Maxxis tires feature an
aggressive dual-stage tread pattern that
delivers consistent traction in wet conditions,
plus a quiet and smooth ride on hard-packed
trails. The new tires are full-size 25 inchers
and are mounted on durable steel wheels.
Proven Features
The KingQuad 400 is available in both
semi-automatic five-speed transmission (the
KingQuad 400FS) and fully automatic CVT
transmission (the KingQuad 400AS) versions. A
sub-transmission gives both versions high- and
low-range power control, easily selected with
the new gate-type shift lever. The automatic
KingQuad 400AS also features an advanced engine
braking system that reduces free-wheeling to
help control speed during steep descents.
Both machines feature selectable four-wheel
drive. And a handle-bar mounted control lever
lets the operator easily switch into two-wheel
drive mode. When in 4WD mode, a torque-sensing
limited slip front differential provides maximum
traction and light steering effort.
A 376cm3 air-cooled four-stroke engine features
a four-valve cylinder head for powerful response
and efficient performance. A Keihin 32mm
carburetor handles the fuel delivery. And
getting power to the wheels is a durable shaft
drive system. An oil cooler is mounted high
under the front body work, adding cooling
support to the vital fluids. Push-button
electric start gets the motor running, and a
recoil starter is installed as a backup.
The KingQuad 400 ATVs ride on a steel tube
chassis featuring independent front suspension
and a dual-shock swingarm rear suspension setup.
This dual-shock rear end is unique in the
category and provides the comfort benefits of
fully independent suspension. Wheel travel front
and rear is 6.7 inches. This suspension action
provides a balance of rock-avoiding ground
clearance with low
center of gravity.
The engine and chassis are guarded by
lightweight and strong plastic skid plates. The
plastic is sturdy enough to withstand continuous
pounding of rocks and other trail hazards, yet
it’s slippery so that these obstacles slide
below the machine, without grabbing. The full
floorboards feature integrated raised footpegs,
plus ample drain holes to vent mud and water.
Both the KingQuad 400FS and AS models feature an
analog speedometer, with and odometer and
tripmeter helping track travel and maintenance
schedules. A fuel gauge is mounted atop the fuel
tank for easy viewing.
KingQuad-inspired dual 35W headlights have high
and low settings and provide the necessary
visibility. A combination taillight and brake
light is mounted just below the seat.
Durable cargo racks front and rear provide
plenty of working space to add cargo boxes or
bags, or all sorts of tools. A four-liter
under-seat storage space is protected from the
elements. And a trailer hitch mount is standard
mounted to the rear end.
To ease winch mounting, a wiring conduit is
installed for running winch wires from the
sturdy winch mount up front to the below-seat
battery. There is also mounting space for a
solenoid.
The KingQuad 400FS and 400AS are available in
Green, Black (for European market) and Red, and
special RealTree Hardwoods HD enhanced
camouflage body work is available (in U.S.
market).
