Everything’s better when you get to share it
with some one else and that applies to
recreation and off-road riding, too. So, it’s no
wonder that when the Rhino 450 was introduced
last year – offering the functionality of the
Rhino 660 at a value price – its popularity
soared and riders and passengers found their
next form of entertainment.
The Rhino 450 is essentially a clone – in the
best possible way – of the popular Rhino 600
carrying all the same great features in the same
durable chassis just featuring a 450cc engine.
The Rhino 450 features a torque-producing
421cc SOHC four-stroke engine that packs more
then enough power for both work- and
play-related activities. A 33mm BSR carburetor
is on board to help ensure crisp, immediate
throttle response and optimum engine performance
throughout the powerband.
Making the Rhino 450 super terrainable and
easy to use are Yamaha’s exclusive Ultramatic®
and On-Command® systems. Yamaha’s fully
automatic Ultramatic transmission – with both a
centrifugal clutch and sprag (one-way) clutch –
keeps constant tension on the drive belt. The
result is minimized belt slippage and wear. The
Ultramatic transmission also eliminates downhill
“freewheeling” and supplies industry-leading
engine braking at all four wheels, even when
loaded with tools, feedbags and a tow-behind
seeder or mower.
The On-Command system is just as trick with
its three position push button 2WD/4WD system
with differential lock. The system allows the
driver to choose when he’s ready for 4WD and
with the press of a button your there. As you
traverse that rough 4WD-oly terrain you’ll
appreciate the composite skid plate, which
allows you to slide right over debris in your
path. And, the fully adjustable and
fully-independent, front and rear dual A-arm
suspension, which offers more than 7.3” of
travel and an overall ground clearance of 12.1”,
will allow you to tackle some of the gnarlist
terrain around while still offering a smooth
ride.
The Rhino 450 offers such versatility that
you’ll never want the fun to end, but you can
still bring it to a screeching halt with the
twin piston, dual hydraulic discs up front and a
shaft-mounted, self-adjusting hydraulic disc in
the rear. The easy-to-operate parking brake
located on the center console is willing and
able to keep you put.
The Rhino 450 is all about two-person
convenience and comfort, so you’ll find padded
bucket seats for both driver and passenger
making it convenient for your ranch hand to ride
along for the daily chores. Also falling into
the convenience column is a 7.9 gallon fuel take
for all-day excursions, a waterproof
automotive-style DC outlet for a floodlight, GPS
system or even a cell phone charger; tie down
hooks in the cargo bed to keep your equipment
secure; and tailgate supports similar to those
found on a pickup truck to make loading and
unloading the cargo bed a snap.
A standard 2” receiver hitch lets you to tow
up to 1,212 lbs., allowing you to put all that
torque to good use, while the same redesigned
lightweight cargo bed found on the Rhino 660 is
capable of carrying an additional 400 lbs. The
cargo bed features tilt levers on both sides of
the bed for easy unloading of feed, gear,
game...you name it.
The Rhino 450 is capable of just about
anything that comes his way while offering
two-person capacity and easy automotive-type
operation. The best part, the Rhino 450 4x4
comes with a value-minded price tag while still
offering all these creature comforts, making it
perfect for the budget-mined customer or for
someone looking to climb into a side-by-side
vehicle for the first time.
The 2007 Rhino 450 4x4 will be available in
Hunter Green and Red at Yamaha dealerships
nationwide beginning September 2006. This
popular model will also be available in Realtree
Hardwoods® High Definition Camo in October 2006.
