CYPRESS, Calif. – June 6,
2008 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., which
builds the toughest, most off-road capable ATVs,
has given the popular Grizzly 450 Auto 4x4 IRS a
new front end with Grizzly 700 styling and other
added features. The new 450, which
received a high-tech sealed wet break and 2-inch
receiver hitch last year, in 2009 also gets a
new waterproof storage compartment on the front
fender, a relocated water-resistant DC outlet
and a new plush seat with thicker, softer foam.
The Grizzly 450 – popular with hunting, farming
and recreational riders alike – features
Yamaha’s patented On-Command® 4WD system
enabling the rider to match machine to terrain
by selecting between 2WD, 4WD or 4WD with
differential lock from a convenient pushbutton
on the handlebar. It also includes a fully
independent suspension system featuring 6.3
inches of travel up front and 7.1 inches out
back. The system is adjustable at both
ends, offering a multitude of settings, and is
coupled with approximately 11 inches of overall
ground clearance providing access to a wide
variety of terrain. The fully-sealed rear
wet brake is low maintenance and is great in wet
conditions, and coupled with dual hydraulic
discs up front, they help provide overall strong
and consistent stopping power.
The Grizzly 450’s new seat design, full-sized
floorboards and oversized fenders offer up a
comfortable ride perfect for a long day in the
saddle. Steel racks featuring a Duragrip
finish boast 264 pounds total carrying capacity
(88 pounds in front; 176 pounds in rear) and can
accommodate plenty of gear. The vehicle’s
towing capacity of more than 1,322 pounds and
the new 2-inch receiver hitch combine power with
convenience to help with those tough jobs.
The Grizzly 450 4x4 is powered by a 421cc SOHC
four-stroke engine. The powerplant
provides plenty of torque-filled punch down low
as part of an extremely user-friendly powerband
that is well-suited to any activity, be it work-
or recreation-related. The ATV breathes
life from a 33mm BSR carburetor, and a durable
stainless steel exhaust enhances power delivery
while keeping engine noise to a minimum.
Like the top-of-the-line Grizzly 700, the
Grizzly 450 carries Yamaha’s exclusive and
ultra-tough Ultramatic® automatic transmission
system. Utilizing both centrifugal and
sprag (one-way) clutches, the system keeps
constant tension on the drive belt for minimal
slippage and wear. Thanks to
industry-leading all-wheel engine braking,
downhill situations can be met with confidence.
High- and low-range gear options are selected by
maneuvering a lever located on the left front
fender that also includes reverse, neutral and
park options.
The 450 also includes a handy multi-function LCD
display illuminating a speedometer,
odometer/trip meter, hour meter and clock, as
well as gear selection.
The 2009 Grizzly 450 Automatic 4x4 comes in
Hunter Green, Steel Blue and Black Metallic with
an MSRP of $6,499 and will be available starting
in July 2008. A camo version in Realtree™
AP HD® will be available in August (MSRP
$6,849).
