CYPRESS, Calif. June 6,
2008 The Raptor 700R is the nations
best selling sport ATV*, and for 2009, Yamaha
continues to build on this legacy with its
consistent quality and innovation.
New for 2009, Yamaha has equipped the 2009
Raptor 700R with a digital meter making it the
first sport ATV with this new feature. The
all-new functionality includes a speedometer;
dual trip meters; odometer; clock; low fuel,
temperature and FI warning indicators; and full
diagnostic capabilities. Another update
for 2009 is a new thumb throttle shape making
long rides more comfortable. Together,
these customer-requested updates offer
additional comfort and convenience on the top
selling sport ATV.
The Raptor 700R comprises quality Yamaha
engineering throughout. Powering the
Raptor 700R is a 686cc engine featuring a forged
piston and aluminum cylinder body with composite
coating, which offers reduced weight, increased
cooling ability and additional wear resistance.
Roller rocker arms reduce friction in the valve
train, which allows the engine to rev more
freely leading to better overall performance and
improved throttle response. Of course, the
beloved electric start feature continues to make
firing the liquid-cooled, four-valve SOHC
powerplant to life a snap. Delivering all
that power is the five-speed manual transmission
with reverse.
The Raptor 700R is also equipped with the
ever-popular Yamaha Fuel Injection system (YFI).
The YFI improves throttle response throughout
the powerband helping the rider take advantage
of that smooth low- to mid-range power.
YFI offers unmatched performance at high
elevation as the system is able to detect and
compensate for changes in altitude. The
precise fuel delivery offered by the YFI means
clean power delivery, solid throttle response
and optimal fuel economy under a multitude of
riding situations. In addition, YFI means
no choke and easy cold starting.
The frame of the Raptor 700R has a special
hybrid design. High-tensile steel marries
with a cast aluminum frame up front, while the
rear frame is die-cast aluminum. The
entire setup ensures the Raptor is compact and
light weight while reducing vibration and
ensuring optimum rigidity.
For 2009, riders will find additional range from
fully-adjustable, aluminum piggyback-type shock
with an additional 5mm of travel and improved
comfort setting. Out back is a
fully-adjustable, aluminum piggyback-type shock
with 10.1 inches of travel. Also in 2009,
the standard Raptor 700R receives a feature
previously only found on the SE model: the front
and rear shocks have high and low speed
compression damping adjustability. The
adjustable front and rear suspension allows the
rider to find his or her perfect setting based
on terrain, rider size and weight and skill
level.
The double-wishbone front A-arms feature reduced
weight and increased strength thanks to the
aluminum, square-shaped tubes of the upper arms
and steel lower arms. The front shock
absorber incorporates an oil damper, adding to
the optimum suspension setup. The one
piece aluminum die-cast rear swing arm offers
superior rear wheel traction, reduced weight and
added comfort for the rider.
Continuing along the backside of the 700R, we
find the Yamaha Cam Adjust drive chain adjuster
which allows for quick and easy chain
adjustments.
The Raptors hydraulic front brakes feature
YFZ-type twin piston front calipers, which are
matched with a hydraulic disc in the rear.
The rear features a drilled rear brake reducing
unsprung weight, and the popular toggle
link-type parking brake lever with the
auto-adjust feature keeps maintenance to a
minimum. The power of the Raptor 700R is
put to the ground via a set of Dunlop radials
mounted on aluminum rims, which include a rolled
edge for added durability.

The Raptor incorporates a YFZ-style headlight,
integrated LED tail light and YZ-style seat,
which helps to improve rider mobility and
comfort under all riding conditions. The
machine has an aggressive look with edgy front
and rear fenders. Attracting attention out
back is the exhaust system a stainless
two-into-one pipe and oval shape silencer, which
has been turned sideways, add a unique flair to
the Raptors ultra-aggressive look.
The Raptor 700R is available at Yamaha
dealerships nationwide in Team Yamaha Blue/White
and White/Red color schemes (MSRP $7,599)
beginning September 2008. Joining the
standard Raptor 700R (at dealerships in August)
is the 2009 Raptor 700R Special Edition
featuring special graphics and a Black color
scheme as well as a wave style rear disc brake
and GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing)
aluminum front grab bar and heel guards (MSRP
$8,199).
