CYPRESS, Calif. June 6,
2008 Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., maker
of the toughest, most off-road capable ATV and
Side-by-Side (SxS) vehicles, is bringing back
the ever-popular Rhino 700 FI Auto 4x4 for 2009.
After a full remodel last year, the powerful and
dependable Rhino returns with the same quality
engineering wrapped in some new colors and
special editions starting in June 2008.
At a whopping 686ccs, the Rhinos powerplant
comes from Yamahas leading utility ATV, the
Grizzly 700 FI. That means additional
power throughout the entire rev range -- most
notably enhanced low- to mid-range power.
Helping the driver take advantage of that power
is the Yamaha Fuel Injection (YFI) system which
improves throttle response throughout the
powerband.
YFI offers unmatched performance at high
elevation because the system is able to detect
and compensate for changes in altitude.
The more precise fuel delivery offered by the
YFI means clean power delivery, better throttle
response and improved fuel economy under a
multitude of riding situations. In
addition, YFI removes the need for a choke and
allows for easier cold starting a valuable
feature in winter weather or cooler climates.
Other exciting engine features include a forged
piston that reduces weight and adds durability
and an aluminum cylinder body with composite
coating for decreased weight, increased cooling
ability and additional wear resistance.
The roller rocker arms lessen friction in the
valve train allowing the engine to rev more
freely leading to better overall performance and
improved throttle response. Of course, the
ultra-convenient electric start feature
continues to make it easy to fire up the
liquid-cooled, four-valve SOHC powerplant.
Getting the Rhino up and at em is as easy as
turning the ignition key, while choosing the
best gear for an outdoor adventure is done with
the automotive-style gear shifter located on the
center console. Yamahas ultra-reliable
Ultramaticฎ automatic transmission system
transfers the power to the wheels and then to
the trail.
The Ultramatic system keeps constant tension on
the drive belt to avoid unnecessary wear and
tear as well as eliminate freewheeling, which
is sometimes felt on other machines. The
result is industry-leading all-wheel engine
braking powered by the biggest Rhino engine
ever.
The Rhino is a proven, capable machine.
Adding to the Rhinos terrainability is the
On-Commandฎ push button 2WD/4WD system with
differential lock that gives the driver options
when it comes to matching machine to terrain.
The Rhino 700 FI has 12.1 inches of ground
clearance, and its fully adjustable and fully
independent front and rear dual A-arm suspension
offers more than 7.3 inches of travel.
Since the 2008 update, the Rhino also features
larger axles and CV joints to better handle its
engine power. Front and rear A-arm guards
prevent sticks and debris from getting to the
boots, but should something find a way past the
guards, the CV boot material is tough and
resistant to most impacts and tearing.
When it comes to braking duties, the
automotive-style brake pedal is at your service
to control the four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes
with dual piston calipers, which provide
unmatched stopping power and feel. Whats
more, the brake pad material helps reduce noise
appreciated by all and perfect for hunters
trying to get an early start in the field.
The parking brake lever located on the center
console was also updated on the 2008 and made
easier to use than ever.
The Rhino 700 FI comes with a number of standard
extras and creature comforts. A 12-volt
accessory outlet easily receives a GPS device,
spotlight or even a cell phone charger.
The Rhino has padded bucket seats with headrests
for both driver and passenger. And a
digital meter is standard on the Rhino 700 FI
providing self diagnostic capabilities for easy
troubleshooting, a voltage meter for monitoring
battery condition, and an hour meter function
that operates only while the engine is running
for more accurate servicing. The digital LCD
multi-function display meter also features a
speedometer, odometer, dual trip meter, clock,
fuel gauge and gear position display. The
7.9 gallon fuel tank holds enough gas for hours
of riding.
The Rhino 700 FI also comes standard with seat
and passenger grab handles and cup holders.
Also gracing the Rhino family are tough,
rotomolded doors to keep mud, water and trail
debris out of the cab. Helping keep
passengers clean and keeping cabin noise to a
minimum is the noise and dust shield located
behind the seats. The under-hood,
tools-free air filter is another added
convenience. It is a snap to service in
its location and the increased filter size helps
the filter stay clean longer.
A standard two-inch receiver means you can put
that low-end torque to good use while utilizing
the same hitch from your pick-up truck, and the
cargo bed is capable of carrying 400 pounds,
which means you will be hauling and towing your
fair share of trophy game. The cargo bed
features tilt levers on both sides of the bed
for the added convenience of unloading your
blind, game and equipment.
The 2009 Rhino 700 FI will hit dealerships
starting in June 2008 and come in Hunter Green,
Realtree AP HDฎ Camouflage and Steel Blue.
A Ducks Unlimited version will also come in
Realtree AP, and other special editions will be
offered in Red, Black Metallic, Brushed Silver
and Red Midnight Armor. MSRP for the
standard Hunter Green or Steel Blue colors
starts at $10,699.
