CYPRESS, Calif. – June 6,
2008 – Yamaha’s YFZ450 made history as
the first true race-ready sport ATV, and ever
since its inception has shown itself to be a
real champion. Yamaha, like GNCC record
holders Bill Ballance and Traci Cecco, is back
on the YFZ450 for 2009 continuing its
unprecedented run.
Last year the YFZ450, which is the number two
selling sport ATV (second only to its big
brother, the Raptor 700R)*, made standard a
feature once only found on the Special Edition
models: front and rear fully adjustable
piggyback shocks that adjust for high- and
low-speed compression damping. Up front is
an independent aluminum upper A-arm front
suspension featuring competition-spec piggyback
shocks with 9.1 inches of travel and adjustable
preload. Out back the suspension system is
a YZ linkage-type, controlled by a fully
adjustable Showa shock with 10.6 inches of
travel and separate adjusters for preload and
rebound.
At the heart of the YFZ is a 449cc
liquid-cooled, DOHC four-stroke engine with five
titanium valves offering massive power with high
over-rev capacity and crisp, linear throttle
response. That smooth power is delivered
via the five-speed manual transmission in an
assortment of situations – from the starting
gate to the finish line, tight trails to
wide-open fire roads.
One of the most popular features on the YFZ450
is electric start, which fires the engine and
the race-inspired Keihin 39mm FCR carburetor
that feeds it at the push of a button. The
twin piston rear caliper design ensures plenty
of braking power and the critically acclaimed
one-hand operation parking brake offers
easy-to-use convenience. The YFZ also
features Yamaha Cam Adjust drive chain adjuster
which makes chain adjustments quick and easy for
racers and recreational riders alike.
The 2009 model YFZ450 sports aggressive yet
streamlined styling, aluminum front and rear
grab bars, LED tail light, Dunlop tires and
aluminum rims and Pro Taper aluminum handlebars.
It will be available at Yamaha dealerships
nationwide beginning in November 2008 in Team
Yamaha Blue/White and a new White/Red color
scheme (MSRP $7,299).
